You're right about a betting pool. This is such a bad scene, in so many different possible ways. @The Real Slim Shady if the truck wa broken down there are multiple decent power banks now that people have, and also mini solar panels. For anyone who is into the shit their into, living in vans and stuff, charging up small electrics is no biggy and has been easily done for ages.

Both portable power banks* and portable solar panels don't work well in a CO forest in winter. The first give up in cold and the second does not go with winter sun levels too well. If that truck really breaks down they are going to have a hell of a ride (ha ha) to stay online. If I were to bet, their only way to get out unharmed is to lose electrical power and twitter connectivity before they poison themselves with botulin or carbon monoxide, or one of them listens to the little fairies and paints the snow red using his comrades. Without twitter access they will do everything to get to the city even if it takes walking down the mountain.

Do we have an estimated location of their camp? Is it one of the first peaks of the range or somewhere deeper?

*all batteries perform bad in cold but lithium cells are particularly sensitive.

That's just Penny's parents where him, Kevin and Jen took refuge at to escape Bonnie's attempt to impose capitalism on them. They claim it's still the Tranch project and they have some of the animals but they're pretending it's less of one even more than they used to.

That’s all correct, but another way to think about it is in terms of natural epochs or seasons - from our viewpoint, season 1 was Westcliffe and the Earl saga, season 2 was Kindness, season 3 the trashing and exodus to Longmont, and I am trying to cal this rapidly evolving situation with Jodie’s clan a spin-off Christmas special (Tranch IV: Donner Girl Party).

Edit, this made me go back and look up the listing for the Tranch:

2530 County Road 305, Westcliffe, CO 81252

Purchased in March of 2020 for 242,000. This is really blowing my mind for several reasons.

One, that’s so cheap!! Unreal that however many idiots they had shacked up together weren’t able to make that work. I hadn’t really thought about this before, but assume they only put 10% down, their mortgage payment at 2020 rates has to have been under 1600/month. Are you seriously telling me that Penny’s throuple plus Bonnie and Sky couldn’t come up with the mortgage plus food and gas money every month?

All they had to do was have a couple of people do nerd work remotely and they would have been fine. Add someone else having a local job doing some kind of labor and they could have lived quite comfortably.

It never dawned on me before just how cheap their housing costs actually were. If they had just been content to live as two “couples” they could have slowly added on or renovated one of the other structures to house the second couple and have lived perfectly good lives out there. It’s only because they had this insane idea of raising alpaca for money to pay for their huge commune that they couldn’t afford life. Unbelievable. Maybe I’m getting the numbers wrong?

What did they do with those structures? Why did they build the tarp barn rather than use these for animal shelter?

Three: these photos make the place look so nice and homey. A real bummer that the tranchers wrecked it.

Four: for some reason I didn’t realize just what a rapid fall the tranch had. They complete the sale in March 2020 and three years later it has all imploded. Fuck, that’s bleak even for utopian cults.
