Given as to how even lifting your shirt to show you have a holstered weapon is considered in most states to be assault in the third-degree due to the fact the use of deadly force for the purposes of self-defense absolutely requires a genuine fear of one's life- a warning shot is an absolutely horrible idea.
I have never heard of a instance of someone firing a warning shot where they weren't charged with at least negligent discharge of a firearm. The way self-defense under US law works it's unironically better in most states (where you don't have a "duty to retreat") to just whip it out and start blasting that firing a warning shot.
The fact Boogie2988 got slapped with a felony for this dumb shit in the Deep South- arguably the most gun-friendly region in the entire world, speaks volumes about how bad of an idea it is.

The problem with the CG thread is, IMO, some of the people still posting in it are trying really really REALLY hard (too hard, in my view) to turn Eric July into the next comics lolcow. I think this is because CG is dying, and there's a desperate need to try and fill the void. I was basically referring to that thread when I referred to the "minority opinion" on the Farms. Elsewhere, including this thread, July is viewed as a dude who's being victimized by a bunch of grifters and ne'er-do-wells.
I lean more towards the latter/majority view. I can see some cowish qualities in July, but not extreme ones.
If the CG thread wants to go that route, I won't try and change their minds, but I'm personally not feeling it. So I'm not sure my opinion would be particularly valued anymore. I'm getting more mirth out of following this thread, and Masterson's, and watching Dick, Nick, and Vito lose their shit every time July scores a W. Along with the rest of insanity that is now Rekieta's life.
The phenomenon is also a bit curious to me because, historically, the CG thread has been about critiquing EVS. July seems to be doing more to fuck up EVS's shit than anybody ever has. I'm not even sure that's July's goal. He's just accomplishing it by doing his own thing successfully. You'd think more people that have followed CG closely over the years, and have grown tired of EVS, would be celebrating, but I guess not.
As @AnOminous just said, the entire Riley situation was him leaning hard on a hypothetical that didn't even fucking happen. His whole argument was predicated on a scenario where July (or somebody) shoots Riley. That was essentially an offhand comment July made, and not his main point. His main fucking point was that some fat fucking piece of shit was engaging in line-crossing IRL harassment at July's place of business.
It was all done in service of Daddy Dax, and to deflect from Riley's unclean hands. Notably, he barely said a word critical of what Riley was doing.
And even within the context of Nick's hypothetical scenario, I don't trust Nick's legal opinion on anything anymore. Least of all a self-defense situation. Texas is pretty permissive, relative to other states, when it comes to application of lethal force. Nick is a non-practicing Minnesota lawyer.

Kids are inherently pretty traditional. They will be literally traumatized by discovering that one or both parents are looking to others outside the marriage for sexual titillation or even “just” flirting.
