That ended after day five. Narrative killed. Shinji was then being built up to be Cole’s Japanese friend during the snobby rich kid arc. This was good because Cole needed a partner and Shinji was simultaneously being a double agent for everyone in the house who hated Cole. Tons of potential and Shinji was finally being forced into conflict. That lasted for less than a day. Narrative killed.

As of right now I unironically forget he is in the house. He is very clearly another Josie like character who does le quirky action every 5 hours, it gets clipped, then everyone endorses him because at least he isn’t an annoying loser. With no narrative these are all just people doing challenges that may or may not be funny. If you have a hard time thinking about any of these people getting $50k and being happy for them then they probably aren’t good contestants lol. Sam keeps trying to build one of them up to be the next protagonist, but none of them are willing to take the heat that comes with it because having conflict is mean

Along with other peoples replies, I very specifically remember Sam saying something along the lines of bringing up that that last seasons winner won by doing nothing that he won't be having that, directly looking at shinji. He might think that Shinji is trying to win the Josie way (which may or may not be intentional) and it would be bad if another person won that way.

He's completely right. Shinji has a much more outward personality and is willing to do silly stuff but pretty much everything entertaining he does is something by himself and is completely harmless to other contestants. They clearly want the show to be a social competition with conflicts, alliances, backstabbing, etc and so far Shinji has avoided all of that, just being a friendly, goofy little dude. I hope Shinji actually starts playing into productions hands, Shinji is already interesting but I feel like there's a ton of potential for him if he actually started having conflicts with contestants.

Pretty much this in a way, he fills in the blanks during quiet moments. Well Josie never did it intentionally, that was just her naturally being a lamppost. I am conflicted on this, I'm not a shinji endorser but I do find him entertaining, But I also agree that if ANYONE joins this competition, they need to be given the "business" and have to be willing to do the "business" unto others.

Actually, you could say the summer thing was killed off when Jet talked her into talking to the rest of the fish instead of sleeping. JC/Cole was killed off when Jet let her leave to save Cole instead of telling her that if she left they'd kick Cole. And Cole left mostly over JC and specifically because of Ben telling him to leave.
