There's some degree of AGP fetishism that comes into play with these types of people, usually stemming from obsession or idolization of someone. Could be anything from a fictional character to a real person that spurs the movement, but it's definitely some psychological and sexual thing especially when someone maintains the same identity for years. But it's becoming more and more common nowadays, much to my chagrin.

Based on the timing of him finally providing "evience" this is my assumption as well. Other people have pointed it out, but this is an unusual catfish in the sense than they don't seem to be getting anything out of it other than attention.
