It's sad there are no more St. John's water dogs. Now there's labs with hips begging for the sweet release of death.

I wonder if it would be possible to try and breed similar dogs back into existence, kind of like cattle breeders breeding auroch-like cattle? It's sad there are no more St. John's water dogs. Now there's labs with hips begging for the sweet release of death.

Working line/American labs are really similar. English labs are the ones you see in show rings, while American labs are the ones used for hunting, service dog work, agility, etc. The latter are as close as we probably have to the old water dog.I wonder if it would be possible to try and breed similar dogs back into existence, kind of like cattle breeders breeding auroch-like cattle?
id be raging too if i was named cock n poo
Because Poodles have hair that has to be trimmed, rather than fur that needs to be brushed. Allegedly this is easier on people with dog allergies. So, some midwit came up with the marketing term “hypoallergenic dogs”…What's with all the weird designer mutts that are part poodle?
The myth about all poodle mixes being hypoallergenic and needing minimal grooming is also the reason why so many of these dogs are horribly matted when they go for their once yearly grooming appointment and need to be completely shaved down like a sheep.Because Poodles have hair that has to be trimmed, rather than fur that needs to be brushed. So everybody and their cousin started mixing poodles with everything, claiming the results were “hypoallergenic”. Which is honestly a crapshoot with mutts. Maybe they got that gene, maybe they didn’t. Thus came the doodle Armageddon. The worst part being that they mixed the single coated Poodle with double coated breeds like Goldens, which means the dog is doubtful that it will be “hypoallergenic” with the undercoat, and at a higher likelihood of extreme matting when the puppy grows in it’s undercoat.

Poodles and the mixes and any dog with a curly coat (bichon, portugese water dog, bolognese, etc) do need to be brushed. A lot. 99% of the time a brush alone wont do it, you need a sturdy metal comb that can reach down to the skin. Curly coats matt up within days and it's a misconception you can brush them out safely. All it does is rip the hair in random places in turn causing frayed ends that ironically will make them matt faster afterwards.Because Poodles have hair that has to be trimmed, rather than fur that needs to be brushed. It depends on the breeder. Amish? Shithole breeders. Backyard breeders? Very much a range from "dumbass who doesn't spay/neuter their pets" to "cashing in on the fad breed" to "I have two of such and such a breed, wouldn't it be fun for the kids to see the miracle of birth!" Show breeders even sometimes have a shitty "pet" line that doesn't meet the standards, or might have a health issue in the line. Generally people who breed for a "working" standard will have pretty healthy dogs (not just work, but someone who is working on an agility line, or herding, or such).Boy this thread is sad. Here I thought most breeders were mostly going for good health and temperament, I have not seen that even mentioned.
When we got our cats we got interviewed and the breeder wanted to come and check out how we live and demanded we belong to the official breedclub and take out particular insurance on them.
You can also get "I have a great mutt family/hunting/farm/whatever dog and I want another dog like this". They breed these dogs mainly for themselves and so actually do breeding work from thought out pairings and health checks to careful feeding and socializing. How rare this is depends on where you live and what's fasionable there.Backyard breeders? For double coated breeds you really need to learn how to line brush your dog. Poodles and curly coats really do need daily brushing and at minimum monthly trips to a groomer. Unless you have the know how and tools to properly bathe these kinds of dogs at home, which most people don’t.Poodles and the mixes and any dog with a curly coat (bichon, portugese water dog, bolognese, etc) do need to be brushed. I'm sure you know this but my autismo dog sperging knows no bounds.
This is what I imagine when I think about el chupacabra
A lot of the times from my experience there the same people. I've had some experience with backyard breeders and all of it has been negative. Being covered in fleas from head to toe, a smell worse then any dump I've ever been to, to just sad pathetic conditions that lead to highly aggressive dogs.Backyard breeders?
