I think it's moreso because of the presence of the internet and social media allowing dissemination of their thoughts worldwide at a grander scale, allowing people to be more influenced by dumber people expressing themselves. It's either a result of a very vocal, stupid minority having their voices amplified, or people that are still in shock and don't know what to say except repeating the line they've been fed to time and time again when the news broadcasted the lives of previous shooters.

I guess that people feel the need to feed into the "poor bullied shooter" view because they're also afraid to say "yeah, he was a sped that probably should have been institutionalized" due to social ramifications. Not being seen as sympathetic to trannies is a social black mark.
