I don't understand how this is sold besides being ran on essentially PURE fomo, basically "you will never have a happy life if you don't do this". Hi everyone!

Recently I followed an online info session from the UZGent hospital in Belgium. The lead mtf bottom surgery surgeon said that they don’t make the labia minora go around the vaginal canal (like a cis vagina) because it would make it too narrow as there is too little skin. Instead the inner labia close underneath the urethra and then the vaginal canal sits under that.

Personally I have a big issue with this because I know I’ll always notice this as not cis and I feel like I’ll never get over how “unnatural” it would look (even tho if I didn’t know they did this I might’ve never noticed). But I have an even bigger issue with the fact that I’ve never seen that online or on this subreddit, I had never heard about that being a thing.

What should I tell my surgeon about this? Has anyone else heard about this but has no issue with this?

Any help or advice welcome!!

Top comment tries to claim that real woman also sometimes don't have their labia cover their vagina. Uses the "Great Wall of Vulvas" as an example not knowing that it includes neovaginas'.

While I am sure that HIddenStill had the best of intentions, that answer was a bit... terse.

It is not uncommon for surgeons to not create labia minora which extend below the vaginal opening (to the fourchette) during the initial surgery. Because of the space they are working in, the tightness of the tissues and swelling that happens during and after surgery, it is challenging (though not impossible) to do this all in a single operation. This isn't, in and of itself, indicative of a 'bad' surgeon. It is typically a fairly simple revision after you have healed (usually around 1 year) to have the minora further defined and extended.

On a side note, there are cisgender women who have labia minora that don't extend below their vaginal opening. This doesn't make them any less "natural", nor does it make them less functional. Google the Great Wall of Vulva to see examples of a wide variety of vulvas and the extent of their individuality.

Now, back to HiddenStill's comment - it is a good idea to seek consultations with more than one surgeon if you are able to. This gives you a better idea of what techniques they use, and lets you get to know the doctor and - hopefully - get comfortable with the person you will be entrusting what will likely be the most significant surgery you have in your life.

Do you have some examples of labia minora not circling the vaginal opening on cisgender women? Because I don't think I've ever seen a natal vagina like this. Of course I've only seen ~50 in person, so perhaps it's just sample size, but this feels like inaccurate information.

Possibly. After searching around a bit I think that it may be waterproof "after care" tape. If so, that's supposed to be removed after 24-48 hours and Miss Pooner there couldn't wait that long to show off her new evil eye banishing nips. Those eye tats with the tiny crescent moons in the irises, are a variation of a "Turkish" design that's supposed to "protect against evil spirits and bad luck". Interesting thing about researching breast ironing: that nearly all the English-language information is from the UK, where breast-ironing immigrants are an issue.

There's a whole lot of quiet white-man's-burden about it, but I only found one webpage that took a moment to try to explain that young girls in your care might be binding their breasts because of gender, and that's fine and appropriate and shouldn't be reported. It's textbook doublethink.
