Asmongold, xQc, all of OTK, Ludwig, Hasan, amongst other famous streamers, have all been exposed by a journalist named Jacob Wolf of promoting a charity scam by a company called "Softgiving", now known as "Brandfluence" (A)

The TL;DR of the article is that all of these streamers had streams where the promoted various charities run by Softgiving, and said all of the donations made during the stream would be donated to those charities. However, 42% of all the donation money went to Softgiving's wallets, and not to charity.

The only streamer to respond publicly so far has been Asmongold, and he did it in his typical scummy fashion, by acting like a Internet Tough Guy and then saying "who give's a shit" if people got scammed, and then he fucking bans the user who asked about it.

I don't get why people donate to charities instead of helping their own communities. Improve the living of the people around you. It is still a good cause and you'll likely get to see the impact of your actions.

no, but seriously. if you work full time, there's little motivation to actually get things that will help your community done. So you just consign that money hoping the org you are giving it to will get the job done for you, because it has that time and employs that time.

now, with all of this taken into account, i would rather give food to my local food bank/church, they even have stands in supermarkets where you can literally just buy food and give it to them. but donating to some shit some streamer is peddling a continent away from me? fuck that

It's literally YouTube meta; their algorithm looks for a number of things, one of which is faces in thumbnails. It's annoying, because a video will be titled something, then you have some jackass making a dumb face in the thumbnail. Annoying for sure, but literally how to play the YouTube game.

Or it's all bullshit and there is no algorithm for the big channels because they all belong to the same advertising and marketing agencies that push them to the front because of Sweetheart deals. The internet isn't real and everything is even fake and gayer than television and movies. I'm pretty sure everyone caught up in this belongs to the same Disney owned agency.

TBH running from it is far worse than just owning up to it. A lot of charities take a cut of donations to pay for operating expenses. If you just apologied for not knowing, Then do a new charity stream for some existing group you'd easily turn it into a PR win.

What is the cut of on the board Charities? I assume no one can do 100% unless it's just a donation but a Non Profit usually takes what % to pay for personnel and back end?

Zakat based charities consistently have the lowest administrative fees, so inshallah you find a charity that has similarly low levels of overhead you're on the right track. Allah is merciful.
Otherwise if admin fees are less than 10% or closer to 5% that's a positive sign.
Always look up the financial reports of any charity on their website before donating.

When I saw this on the front page I thought it was gonna be related to the shit going on with the Completionist, but no its some completely different group of people.
