This will stop being a requirement eventually as it becomes standard policy but right now... well, they are competing with Trump. Co=opting requires setting up a superficially better alternative to get people to flock to it, only to pull the rug out from under them when its too late. They cannot do so with policy without going too far and losing chunks of moderates so their only area to compete on... is sheer magnetism.

Political power isnt permanent and forever. Hillary at this point has no direct power and just blackmail and owed favors. Many of which shes already burned.

As well he shouldn't. The United States was built under the idea that this nation would be a union of states but this union was to be maintained under the idea that if our government (state or federal) becomes incapable of governing then it's the right of the people to see change enacted.

Trump also still plays kingmaker, assuming he overcomes all his legal challenges and wins 2024 he gets to have the final nod for who runs in 2028. Whoever can win him over after that will have an insane level of momentum compared to any other conservative challengers. It makes the idea of them simply coopting the MAGA movement a lot harder because actual believers will take Trump's word above anyone elses. The Tea Party never had a true central figure to rally around so the neocons were able to hijack it much easier. It doesn't mean it's impossible obviously as we've already had a few guys latch on to MAGA only to stab Trump in the back like Crenshaw who was just another McCain dick sucker but some have gotten better about sniffing out frauds.
