The Stanleys aren't as overpriced as the Yetis and they work better (in my experience, although I will say that Thermos is still king of the castle for insulated drink/soup container).

Here's what actually happens: In elementary school, the nuance completely goes over the kids' heads and the teacher gets frustrated that the kid misses the point. Even the wokest teacher ends up leaning on normal stuff because you can't manage a classroom otherwise. Whatever wokery or inappropriate shit actually sticks is a product of parenting or lack thereof.

In middle or highschool, woke English teacher tries to make kids read a book written by a queer two spirit Deaf retard of color and everyone gets bored, is unable to have the stimulating convo woke teacher had in college. After getting underwater on grading and planning, will eventually pick up tried and true texts and lessons the more experienced teachers shared.

If anything, look forward to the hilarious stories your kids bring home and have a plan to supplement what they're getting at school. Over summer see what kids can pick up at community college and either they can graduate early or take more electives/have a free period during the year.

I bought a Stanley bottle on sale at Walmart years ago because I needed something for hiking and it looked pretty sturdy (the one I have is made for camping, doesn’t have a handle or a straw). This was way, way before this whole trend around them. Few years later in 2022, I have some girl I know ask where I got it and if I knew about the TikTok trend. I think she was confused when I told her I bought it off the discount camping rack at Walmart, don’t use TikTok, and frequently use it for water for my dog on hiking trips as opposed to holding coffee or those weird waters that bug people are obsessed with.

When I visited my ten year old niece for her birthday she proudly showed me a water bottle her parents had got her. It didn't look all that interesting, just a dull green water bottle. I couldn't quite see why she was so excited, it wasn't a pretty colour and didn't have cute designs. She then proceeded to tell me how this bottle was all over TikTok and that her friends were going to be so jealous that she had one. I mentioned that she was ten, right?

I mean the positives are hopefully kids are drinking more water instead of sodas, but also man has the kids 'cool gotta have' stuff really dropped in imagination or excitement over the years.

normally i'd argue there's no 'patient zero' for trends, it's just a buncha people already doing something before it's cool, it collects momentum and suddenly before you know it it's huge

but this is tiktok we're talking about, i'm pretty sure there were trends that actually started with one randy or big influencer going "hey guys let's start doing this from now on!" and people did

one common thing these people claim is that if you had certain kinds stomach surgeries, particularly "weight loss" surgery (which i still think is the dumbest name imaginable, that's like if we started advertising lobotomies as antidepression sur- oh wait...) are incapable of drinking plain water
i don't know why and i'm genuinely curious to know, maybe it's a lack of certain chemicals that makes you unable to keep it down, which these syrups supplement?
either way, it hardly matters, because most of the people in this community didn't have these surgeries and aren't documenting their healing process, they just do it cause it's *~*aesthetique*~*
but call em cringe and they'll always use the sick to vilify you for it

As soon as I saw the syrups I knew it was gonna be a hamplanet. I like those drink mixes, liquid or power which are acceptable but those syrups are the same Starbucks uses. Might as well just drink soda at that point if you are going to throw high fructose corn goyslop in your drink.

At that point you're just drinking a flat Italian Soda since it's literally the same syrup they use at coffee shops.

While I absolutely cannot figure out the sudden hype of the Stanley travel mug shit I do at least acknowledge that they're functional but there are also dozens of insulated cups that will work just as well. Supposedly they went viral after someone's car caught figure and while the vehicle was toast their Stanley thermos was still intact, straw and all. Stanley saw this and actually offered to replace the person's car, which is honestly a pretty nice gesture but doesn't feel like it's really enough for a sudden craze. I'm kinda just blanket blaming TIkTok for this like most stupid new trends. It's not the first time water bottles have gone crazy though. A few years ago everyone was all about HydroFlasks, and while they're still around because they actually work, they're not longer a fashion accessory.

The one I use for work is definitely post-2002 and it's a tough bastard, but it's also not one of the "cup"-types. It's one of the classic green vacuum bottles.
