Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

But then he doesn't die.
Sean Bean did make a declaration that he would never star in films that have him die because of all the memes from Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings and GoldenEye.

disparu pointed out that she absolutely has no credentials for that kind of project, which one comment (I know I know) suggested that she most likely is hired as PR to "keep star wars in the headlines" while being woke as fuck, and if the movie ever happens will actually be done by someone else like a ghost writer for movies.
The films being written by Steven Knight, who is a long credentialled writer. He created shows like Peaky Blinders, See and the absolutely fantastic SAS: Rogue Heroes.

Her lack of credentials only makes sense if she's just some figure head for the production. Where she'll probably just be directing the basic actor scenes in the film. The film will have The Third Floor or someone else do a thorough pre-vis of the film. All the action will be second unit stunt teams directing. The visual effects supervisor will be in charge of all the VFX action direction. Which is what happens anyway for most of these films.

It's like how you hear about directors talk about being offered Marvel films which are already completely done in pre-vis. Does anyone really think these indie film makers that get given giant movies can suddenly scale up and direct something 300 times or more the budget of what they have done previously?

They'll then just claim the virtue. If the film fails, they then just blame the fans and the director gets the career hit while the executives running the show do the same thing with another film.
Hollywood loves to do this. There was this show called Woke that had black showrunners, but there was so much drama and things didn't work out (the initial writers wanted to spoof the idea of "wokeness", basically) that they were removed but were used as figureheads while white writers were hired and wrote/did the work for them.

As for Steven Knight, he can be a hit and miss guy when it comes to his writing. I love Peaky Blinders, but Serenity was a trash movie. My concern was that he just has too much on his plate, but i don't know how screenwriters operate, honestly. His other projects are, currently:
  • This Town (TV show)
  • The Veil (TV show)
  • A Thousand Blows (TV show)
  • Maria (Film)
  • Vertigo remake
  • Peaky Blinders finale film (yes, he confirmed that it starts production this year)
  • Taboo season 2
I'm not sure how he can juggle all of this and at the same time keep the integrity of Star Wars in this film. And he's never worked on science fiction also, from my understanding.

He is, on net balance, a better writer than Chris Terrio, all things considered. The fact the guy who wrote Argo was tasked to write Batman v. Superman, Justice League and Rise of Skywalker was just absurd. Terrio might be able to adapt material already written well, but he sure wasn't able to create his own material.

Is shitty Peaky Blinders really the new benchmark for quality writing? Quick, everyone post your instagram handle!

Rey will have to fight the Real Nasty Sith, Darth Trumpemort and his evil apprentice Darth Putler. And the evil spymaster Axel Jones.
I wish they would go all-in with the woke already, but we know it'll be the same safe bland JJ-esque crap they turned Rise of Skywalker into.

The first two seasons were pretty good. So good I stopped watching because I knew they'd never top the season 2 finale.

But the main thing people forget is that it doesn't matter is there were a writer on a series, or even if they were Big Dick Jim in the writers room, with very few (Furloneli) exceptions there is a whole team of writers. A lot of the better writing comes from people coming with different ideas or even just being challenged to reign in their worst impulses.

Seinfeld was better when Larry David was in the writing room, but Curb Your Enthusiasm showed that nigga needed people to reign him in and give him direction. True Detective's head writer wrote a good story, but went too far into the deep end when the creative controls were taken off.

You know, a fun little short story idea could have been Han getting back into smuggling specifically so he can collect artifacts from Alderaan for his wife as a touching life day and/or memorial commemoration of those who fought against tyranny. Hell, it's sappy enough it'd have some good appeal too.

But that requires having a second brain cell. And not loathing the franchise.

The Mandalorian and Grogu are embarking on a new adventure — to movie theaters.

Directed by Jon Favreau, and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni, The Mandalorian & Grogu will go into production in 2024.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” said Favreau. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

"Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen," added Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.

The Mandalorian & Grogu will lead Lucasfilm's ongoing feature-development slate, including films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni, who is also currently developing Ahsoka Season 2, among those in the works.

This is the Way.

What a retarded idea, make a movie based on a tv show which viewership has been going down and will require people to have watched the tv show first. Unless this movie has a sub $100 million budget, I don't see how it will make money.

They are calling it The Mandalorian & Grogu? Please tell me that’s a placeholder.

That’s an awful title. Call it Vode An: A Mandalorian Story, The Way: The Mandalorian Movie, or simply The Mandalorian Movie.
It's up there with Attack of the Clones for cringe.

My prediction is Disney will try to get asses in seats by reveling the origin of Grogu, and Yoda by extension, to make a profit. Other than that I don't see how different a movie vs series will be. At least with Attack of the Clones movie was live action and the series was animated/CGI.

I guess they're pivoting away from shoving Bo Katan down your throat. Either way, no one cares about you trying to copy Lone Wolf and Cub again since you did that for two seasons, and like three and a half episodes.

Their ending is owning Sneed's Feed and Seed as far as what few people care now.

As someone who did read all volumes, seeing people compare both of them pisses me off since lone wolf is a masterpiece of serialized content, where the chapters focused on Daigoro were my favorites and in SW, every time I see that baby I get sick.

I wonder how people would see these shows and films if the star wars brand name weren't attached to it. No references, just the straight up content without any knowledge of star wars.

Kinda sad that SW is so big that we barely can do an experiment on it.

By current lack of imagination. The film will feature flashbacks which feature Obi-Wan and Anakin. It will also feature CGI Mark Hamill. Ashoka of course. They have that nice CGI Harrison Ford head which they could use again.

Even Favreau said himself he had no idea where he was going to take The Mandalorian's story in the show. This movie, assuming it releases, seems to be no different. Just a never-ending adventure. It's getting stale after a while, especially after what the third season and The Book of Boba Fett did.

And this is considering if it gets made at all, what with all of the film project announcements that have been made over the past nine years that never came to fruition at all. Rian J.'s movie trilogy, the Rogue Squadron movie, the movies the Game of Thrones showrunners were supposed to be making...and Kenobi, which they turned into that terrible show instead.

Disney's brain trust is now well into this "throw anything at the wall, and if it sticks, plaster it all over all our services" phase. Their initial plan was to create a new generation of heroes who could have ongoing adventures and that failed because the new heroes they came up with were like Rey, Poe, Finn, etc. So their next plan was to develop different heroes in a different part of the timeline betwixt the original trilogy and the Disney Star Wars films who could have ongoing adventures, including Mando, Ahsoka, Old Boba Fat, etc. Basically the only durably popular character from that effort was Baby Yoda (get out of here with that Gorgu nonsense, nobody calls him that), the rest range from misfires to ones whose shows only got another season because Disney+ needed some material to fill up their roster. I get the sense that the execs at Disney have realized for awhile now that this brand is screwed up beyond all repair, and have been panicking.
