Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Raw? You speak breadland?
I know just enough to watch short videos, as well as bits from live events, like this clip from FesMatsu '21:
The first skit is about the brothers trying to get Ichimatsu to come with them to get vaccinated (he hates shots). The second skit is a follow-up to a Cinderella parody segment from Season 3, but it goes off the rails after Takahiro Sakurai (Osomatsu, here playing the role of Ugly Stepmother) delivers his first lines in a way that makes Hiroshi Kamiya and Miyu Irino start laughinh.

So I got through Full Metal Panic Fumofu and The Second raid. Fumofu was fucking hilarious. You can watch it without even seeing the main series. It's that good as a comedy spin off and once again the dub comes in clutch.

Now the Second Raid. Holy shit Kyoto went hard. If you told me this came out in 2005 I'd think you were lying. Half the episodes of S1. At first you think it's a bit underwhelming. Fuck no. In 13 episodes Souske Sagura goes from solider to man.

Basically until the end the lambda driver isn't working because he isn't. He doesn't realize how in love he is with Chidori until he's recalled. And he breaks. Goes AWOL. Almost bangs a hooker until he realizes how far down he's gone.

Then the ultimate twist. The villian from last season survived. On his deathbed, but he's still there. Everything that's happened has been just to break him. And it almost does. Until Chidori shows up, Souskue realizes she ain't dead like the villian was saying, she beats the shit out of him, and he heroes the shit out of the terrorists. Absolute masterclass. 100/10.

Also the haircut scene was really cute

Not even best gal in her own series, though.
Could be that that's the case. I just found the whole premise of farting fish monsters on crab legs to be quite dumb, and not in the way of other Ito premises. It's probably closest to Hellstar Remina in tone, but I thought that was much better. It was by far the least interesting and impactful of all his major works that I've read, but it could just be that I found the fart gas stuff to be crass.
Gyo hits kinda hard for me, because I have allergies that sometimes completely close off my nasal passages and/or make them uncontrollably leak, sometimes full blast out of seemingly nowhere. So the concept of part of your body bloating up and taking over everything due to outside forces was too familiar for comfort.

finished watching Slayer: NEXT. it was alot of fun, better then the first season. i like how the plot started out as and then developed into later in the story. the stakes get pretty damn high at times and you forget how dire the situation is when character suddenly starts getting seriously hurt or even dying. that's what i like about the show. it can be all wacky and fun one moment and then deadly serious at the drop of a hat.

i think its funny how everyone forgot the first reason they went after the clear bible, curing Zell. that went nowhere lol.

now i have to make time to watch the OVA and movies.

I forgot about that one. Since I have a quarantined folder I might as well download it
There's no subs for it sadly, except Chinese Hard-subs. Hell, it getting subs already seems like a bit of a hard time.
This is a real cultured season. Magical girl BDSM have undammed the horny, twitter ree will be delicious.
Yup, it made up for the near drought of nudity in 2023 in the first month of the year.

Finally finished going through the new seasonal animes. Way more watchable shit that I imagined, and the isekai trend seems to finally dying down.

Shows that aren't continuations that have potential:
* Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete - It somehow looks like ass but still funny as shit. I have no idea how it was even made.
* Majo to Yajuu - Very edgy and Total Witch Death is a good change of pace.
* Mato Seihei no Slave - We had isekai trend so long I forget how nice battle couple anime is.
* Solo Leveling - I know it's popular and the first episode had good world building, the question is if the protagonist immediately becomes OP or not.
* Sasaki to Pii-chan - It's the usual trading isekai to real world but it seems to be going somewhere.

Shows I'm iffy on:
* Metallic Rouge - Dystopia is always novel but first episode was boring as shit.
* Sengoku Youko - Pretty weak first episode, but they already greenlit 3 seasons so someone is pretty sure it would sell.

As for continuations: Frieren, Mashle, Apothecary,

I am actually watching these two. I just have been getting through my full metal panic binge this week lol. Pretty well agree. Chained solider feels a bit toned down but I don't mind, keep the full ecchi stuff for the manga. Solo Leveling looks fun, I've waited for years for it, but still a bit skeptical

Mato Seihei is one of those series that has an okay concept, but it’s at its heart an ecchi series. The Buu-esque Thunder God seems like it would be an interesting antagonist where it’d eventually absorb someone egotistical enough to question what it wants as it potentially is one of the strongest characters and a counter to the head bitch in charge of the Anti-Demon Corps.

The whole women-led society is a set-up for no other men being around.

Oh I make no illusions what Mato is, I've read the damn thing. But like everything kill la kill man writes, it toes the line by actually having a plot. It's basic, but the man don't cheap out on it, nor the action. That's what makes it interesting to me. It's a ecchi with stakes.

A lot of the designs are just fun. The King Ghidorah looking Thunder God and the notBerserk Battle form are blatant ripoffs, but fun homages.

Masami Obari's new mecha anime, Bang Bravern, came out yesterday, but it's not coming to Crunchyroll until January 18th.

This trailer is super deceiving, however, as it's not just going to be a gritty real robot military mecha anime, but have super robot elements as well in a full-on tribute to the Brave series!

And as for Metallic Rouge, talk about tranny-coded character design.
