It's not exactly a surprise that the guy who gets 300-500 viewers per stream wouldn't have enough active viewers to claim like 1100 subscriptions. He often falsely claims that the early stream viewers are entirely separate from the late night stream viewers, which is ridiculous, but even if there were 700-800 unique viewers in total, that still wouldn't be enough. AFAIK it's not like Twitch where complete strangers who have never even watched someone's stream can get gifted a sub, which has happened to me many times

Which is why so many of us doubt that the comcast thing is real. It's very hard to imagine DSP wouldn't milk a thing were he was an actual victim for once for all it is worth. Whatever is actually going on with this: the aftermath is highly irregular and unusual for someone like DSP.

It's been floated as a recommendation for years now. I genuinely think he'd be more successful if he did. I feel like the big reason he doesn't is his ego won't allow it. As much as he hates video games, he still has this weird obsession with being seen as a god tier gamer who can pick up and master any game he plays, it's just those darn game devs/faulty netcode/online tactics/streamers who get a game a few days before him that are always making him look bad.

Phil's own explanation has made the following claims: Approximately 500 gifted members have not all had their funds cleared on his accounting page for youtube as showing in his balance waiting to be deposited on the day the payment is sent. The explanation for why these have not counted yet entails the owners of the account not having been active in the channel, meaning they were not present chatting when gifted the membership. Unless the gifted sub account is activated by a sign in, then goes to Phil's channel, nothing will be counted for the gifted members and the funds used to pay for those gifts handed out but never actively used to be accepted by the receiver will be refunded to the sender's (stolen) account information used to pay for them initially.
