I should've been more specific. Most people in the west have 0 interaction with Russia, so they have to be told a story or an angle to create an opinion they wouldn't normally have. (Dirty commie orcs)As much as Russia sucks, they're a nuclear power, and if they get balkanized, especially unexpectedly, their nuclear shit gets balkanized too and instead of one at least nominally sane nuclear power, we have a bunch of potentially insane nuclear powers.
People who live nearby in different countries is another matter. (Russia asserts its dominance on us, controls our leaders, they're full of shit blyat.)
Its not like Russia is this smug, Jackson hinkle shilling, bazed orthodox antiwoke paradise. Far from it, considering the last 150 years. From a zoomed out perspective though all I can think about are how bad the war and dynamic conflict is for regular citizens on both sides. Needlessly so. They don't get to have an opinion considered or broadcasted to westerners because state and international propaganda has a much louder voice.
Which brings us back to the value of free speech, which is a major reason why the west was seen as the better side historically. Seeing that fade, or ignored because there's a battle for control over the Ukrainian identity and the push/pull of power in between the west and east is tragic.
