I've said this before but I legit have no clue how his parents deal with this. I get wanting to keep him safe until he gets his shit together but imagine a deadbeat son making enough money to move out like 3-5 times a week and they keep losing it again and again due to lack of self control and just being fine with that

I'll try not to get too much into the psychology mumbo jumbo. But an addiction in a family follows a pattern of "black sheep in a family" and that's considered an unhealthy psychology that's also associated with schizophrenia. Basically, every family has intrinsic tensions, because living together and making decisions together is fucking hard. Many deal with this healthily with love, communication, and healthy negotiations, so everyone can be more or less happy.

A "black sheep family" basically takes every intrinsic tension and dumps it on the black sheep or scapegoat. In this case, Austin. Every unresolved issue, unresolved drama can just be lazily and unhealthily dumped to "the black sheep" and it helps the family keep functioning more or less. It's much easier to say "UHH, my son is a fuck-up, what a mess" and leave it at that, and blame your problems on him, than to re-arrange the family dynamics. As you can see, BossmAndrew is "nomal" because he's the "good son".

The issue, is that if in theory, Austin would be kicked to the curb, now the family is in deep shit. They don't have a black sheep or scapegoat anymore and have to deal with their own problems. And the parents are fucking lazy and don't really love their son, so they won't do that. A son of a loving and caring family does not rob, do crack or gets addicted to gambling.

There is a decent chance he'd crash it or try to sell it for drugs/gambling money before he get's permanent plates. Honestly, I'm here for the uninsured crash and subsequent injury lawsuit arc. No way he'll keep it insured. He'll call up Geico or whoever to get an advance on a safe driving bonus or late payment forgiveness after he depos the money he needs to pay his insurance bill the next day. Hopefully he doesn't kill anyone with the damn thing.

I also look forward to it not getting used much. Austin is a lazy fuck and will still get his food and drugs delivered and beg Ratdad to buy him new headphones on his way home. He doesn't have any friends. Something that might actually be fun is him getting back to fishing. Take Trapper for a little hike and a relaxing afternoon, but his brain is too fried for that. Every second he's driving to a lake and casting his reel are precious seconds he could be mashing buttons and begging for juice.
