“Quality takes time” also falls apart when you’re not actively working on the thing either. If he was spending every day working on the art, trying to make it the best art possible, that’d be one thing. But he’s not, he’s sitting on his ass trying to start stupid shit on twitter most of the time or burning thousands of dollars trying to get merch that’ll never sell.

I don’t even read comics and I was tempted to buy that “What’s your favorite part?” meme shirt Eric July made, that’s being clever with merch.

If I remember the lore on this correctly: Ethan claimed he was tired of seeing boy's shows being made "unisex", feminized, or otherwise ruined with bizarre propaganda. I think the pitch was something along the lines of "let's mock the things the enemy enjoys".

Now just to be an equal opportunity hater, the story of Reignbow Brute is beyond stupid. It's a joke concept Ethan came up with (well sort of) way back in 2018 when he was still full on Warcampaign. Warcampaign had a whole thing where they weren't going to jack off or fuck their wives until the book was done called the Reignbow Brute celibacy challenge. Also I believe Dynamite Comics held the Rainbow Brite IP and were going to print it if not publish it way back then.



So that's actually 6+ years to make a stupid parody book. This is the type of shit the old Mad Magazine guys or the What The? crew or Cracked (all parody mags and comics from the past for you zoomies) those artists would have churned it out FAST and on brand stylistically. Nobody cares that each fucking fuzzy bear hair is inked in fine detail on your joke book especially when you get one hair a week done @FROG To add an extra layer of LOL the whole concept of a gender swapped Rainbow Brite called Brute was swiped from some LGBTQ Instagram artist!

Shamefully, those pics are totally not AI. I know this because he was showing them off on stream almost two years ago, and going back and forth about the three fingers vs four thing even then. It was supposed to be cartoony, believe it or not.

The pitch was, supermanly fairy finds out he has a teenage son who’s grown up wussy, and they go on an adventure together. Tell me that doesn’t have better appeal than Cyberfrog: Walking Dead Angsty Bug Apocalypse featuring Some Other Guy’s Wife and Daughter. For once, something straightforward and actually fun. I think that was the problem. Fun is not the EVSCG way.

It brings me to the difference @Todd_from_theGolfClub pointed out in original CF vs recent CF. There’s life and vivacity in those original drawings, and in my experience that only ever comes from paying attention to the image in front of you and moving your hand quickly. You know, like when you’re inspired. The problems I see with Lounging Heather occur when you put your brain on autopilot and muddle through your art chores while you’re distracted by something else. Like drunkstreaming, doomscrolling, etc etc etc. The love for the craft is gone.

Let’s compare Ethan to a comic book character that is better written and drawn than any of his own: Manji from Blade of the Immortal.

Malin would appreciate his fashion sense.

Granted the gift of immortality, swordsman Manji can survive any attack save an honest to god beheading. A dissipated wastrel, over the years his technique becomes sloppy. Once he eventually finds something to protect, he may not be up to the task despite his advantage. His duels become disgraceful, horrific gorefests that cost him dearly and push him to the brink.

Ethan worked hard to become a very skilled artist. But his love for making comics decayed; now it’s just a thing he’s proud to do better than other people. (Just like he’s proud to be a better salesman for crowdfunds than other people.) Now, he’s not the greatest salesman anymore, and he’s going to have to dig deep to make art that will remind people what was engaging about him the first time.

It’s still a better story than Cyberfrog. Tune in next week, for Pen of the Fatass!

Its supposed to be "funny" and own the SJWs. That is why he is having "funny" Cecil write it. Alot of the "joke" is straight out of EVS in 2018. EVS used to talk alot about high-T men, Jordan B. Peterson and alot of masculinity stuff. The comic was supposed to be a funny take on super-masculinity pushed into a "female" context.

But as with most "funny" crowdfunded comics, the joke is stale or meaningless by the time the book is ready to come out. (If it ever comes out).

It was never going to work anyway. The whole idea of overweight estrogen-filled EVS and Cecil seeing themselves as being HIGH-T alpha males was absurd. Lispy effeminate Cecil and big girl Ethan with his campy aesthetic & constant need to dress up are the opposite of masculine.

He should have just refunded the campaign a long time ago and moved on. But its half a million dollars which shows how stupid comicsgate was when it was crowdfunded.

A couple weeks ago, Ethan updated status on it for the first time since 2022 and explained why it was so late:

"I apologize for not updating this campaign sooner. This book should have been in your hands long ago, according to my Estimated Shipping Date. There are excuses, but none of them matter. The fact is, I overextended myself on CYBERFROG 2: REKT PLANET, and wanted that campaign complete before I switched gears into this book, with it's drastically different tone."

He also put up four pages of lazy art which all have three panels per page. Its a four-page lead-up to a fight at a bar between the main character and sad care bears.

And Kyle Ritter is also onboard apparently bringing that same over-use of blues and yellows from Cyberfrog. The art suggests that Ethan has even more large emoting care bear face panels in the book.

At one point, he was also gonna do a send up of Jem and the Holograms called Jem and the Homophobes. Given how long it took him to do anything with Rainbow the Brute, you'll probably see (bad) concept art of it in 2046. In the meantime, he'll do 800 streams remining us that Brie Larson is "bad," and Eric July is the anti-Christ who raped and murdered a prostitute behind an Arby's in 1987.

I think 2024 is gonna be a rough year for Ethan.
