I found it was a decent AJPW match, however they condensed five matches between the plucky new comer against the veteran into one match. This is something you would get there that the new guy starts to learn about how to counteract finishers and tank some other finishers because they just don't affect him much anymore. Though with Hook, like his father, he usually no sells moves anyways. Other than showing the potential Hook has later in his career, this just sets up Joe knowing that he still has at least two other younger guys going after him and he already had troubles with one younger guy. He doesn't need to worry about Wardlow because he's beaten him twice before with Wardlow only having one win on him although that was also for the TNT belt.meh, I thought Hook v Joe was a decent enough mismatch with the small guy getting in some offense while constantly getting LOL NO into the mat over and over
AEW rarely does new storylines well as they are bad with the payoff. They're better at finishing older storylines. Samoa Joe is just wrangled into the Swerve/ Hangman story which is one of their better home grown stories. Christian Cage being the other good story.
