Mega Rad Gun Thread

Well that seems somewhat unnecessary.
I reckon we'll find out soon enough.
As a side note my account over at fartcom got locked for being excited the H9 is making a comeback.
Lolerbate.
As a fellow H9 owner (complete with aluminum frame upgrade)... It might seem unnecessary but it kind of isn't. Looking at the TFB video they really did rework a lot of parts, most visibly the recoil rod and its base which was a huge problem on the originals.

They make a big deal about the new CHF barrel too which was mentioned as having a short lifetime on the original - which is why I bought three in the parts sellout.

It'd be nice if the serialized cassette were compatible so we could get a parts kit upgrade but I reeeeally don't think they want to touch the legacy Hudsons with a ten foot pole. Also amusing they mentioned tolerance stacking as being one of the main issues the H9 was so inconsistent - when people touted the owner's machinst background as an advantage.

I guess it's neat, but it's nothing new really. Guess it makes sense they went the tacticool route since Browning and Winchester have the high end lever gun market on lock down.

I'm a firm believer in the one true caliber but this is just dumb. Why take a gun where the whole point is how compact it is and then make it gigantic with red dots, comps, and extended mags? Just remake the Beretta 70 ya jabronis.
As far as black, threaded, tacticool lever actions go I like the look of the Smith more than the Henry Big Boy X. They stuck a few mlok slots on there without ruining the sleek look. Hopefully they release one in .357 down the line.

Sounds like you will be able to get a 30X without a threaded barrel or red dot. Even as someone who likes pistol mounted dots, I agree they add too much size to a pocket pistol. The increased magazine capacity is nice.

S&W's new thing is a .44 magnum lever action:

My hopes of a Volcanic revival are dashed.

Daniel Defense brought back the Hudson H9:

Beretta must've read the comments about 32 ACP because they've refreshed the Bobcat/Tomcat family with the 30X:
I just watched TFB's video on the 1854, and I was very excited until I learned they're charging $1200 for the plastic 1854 and $3500 for the nice one.
I think most lever autists will stick with Marlin or Henry.

Old school drop in handguard > free float.
I wish I could have freefloating with MOE or CAR-15 handguards.

if only Ruger would make that .44 carbine of theirs again
Like said, they won't, they got Marlin for a complete steal and they're gonna make that brand count. At most you can maybe hope that they may try to revive the automatic some day.

Probably. The 1854 moniker is a little dumb though, it seems to play on when Smith and Wesson (the persons) got involved with the Volcanic, but this gun is presumably not a clone of the Volcanic action since they likely want to make money. I guess it makes the gun sound like a continuation of an old design, like the Winchesters and Marlins, but I'm also gonna assume that it's a copy of established Winchester or Marlin designs.

This discussion of Trijicon battery ACOGs comes at an opportune time. I've felt a TA110, their 3.5x35 led model, on order but I'm having second thoughts. Why not just go with an LPVO and benefit from multiple magnification? That being said, the acog will be lighter and probably tougher than what's in my price range. Not sold either way tbh.
I guess the AC0G needs to be sighted at a certain range and pretty much makes it convenient by making it simpler to pick up and ready to go.

While the LVPO would help with long distance shooting.

Ok now you got my attention Beretta a beefed up PX4 but jesus fuck you want over 800 for it? Shit down at my local mom and pop they got the original for almost half that at like 439 and even cheaper used in 40 or for that kind of money I can just get one of the new MRO ready M9A3's.

The tolerance stacking bit I find amusing.
IIRC cinnamon wafflebuns very own KEArms was a supplier to Hudson and got sued by them for delivering substandard parts, of course after KE sued Hudson because they refused to pay them for said parts.

They absolutely were making parts for them, but mostly the Alu frames and maybe the slides? One of the H9's problems is a lot of weak MIM parts which I think they don't do.

Speaking of, other than a Mosin, anyone know if they sell 7.62x54r hunting rifles in the west?
it's more popular in europe for a bespoke or built to order rifle from Sako/Tikka, Dolphin, Roedale, et c. in the US and Canada an appropriate long action will easily accommodate the round and you can build a modern bolt action as you like it. i know a guy that did so with an Arisaka 99 receiver that had a shot out bore, and i've converted 8mm Mausers into 7.62x54mmR as well twice (for different people). for modern sporting rifles you would have to look at the various SVD-esque rifles (PSL, VEPR, et c). people also have a long and storied history of sporterizing the Mosin-Nagant as well.

freefloating with MOE or CAR-15 handguards
national match float tube of appropriate length. Compass Lake Engineering will make one as a special order if you call them (it will not be cheap), and Rock River Arms sometimes has them as well (literally a decade or more ago when the Army transitioned to the M4 as the standard rifle it was anticipated that service rifle would also transition, but that never happened). 20" is the service rifle length of the M16 for competition so nobody will make them in quantity since a carbine/mid-length/pistol isn't regulated for NM shooting.

About time DD came out with their H9. I remember they emailed industry insiders asking if it was worth doing years ago. not long after Hudson went under IIRC. it had a poll on what variant(s) people wanted.

I've considered it, but one of the things I like about plastic handguards over cheesegraters is lower weight. How much do carbine and full length tubes add, respectively?

Please do not tell me they were actual G98 or K98k rifles
They made millions and millions of those things, dude. Even K98ks aren't always the nicest, I don't feel that bad if a Russian capture gets sporterized or otherwise worked over, and there's not exactly a shortage of M48s either.
The sporterizing trend is dead and buried though, so it's not like this even happens in any appreciable numbers anymore.

one was Turkish, the other i don't remember. this was years ago and weren't my rifles either. they weren't some special historic rifle or anything, just ones owned by different customers that wanted to use cheap 7.62x54mmR that was being imported by the pallet load and 8mm Mauser was harder to come by.

a bit over 1lb, maybe 1-1/4 or 1-1/2 at most.

Only you can prevent gun abuse!

If you use an item, the replaceable parts might wear out! EGADS

The human mind is functionally unable to deal with the concept of entropy, or more specifically its consequences.

Edit: I wonder how they feel about keeping magazines loaded lmao
