Some more Sky king stuff

I am super stoked for this vid. The Legend of Sky King is one of my favorite stories. It's one of the few irl things that happened, that didn't effect me or someone I knew, that genuinely moves me. I think it's because instead of inflicting his pain on others he went out in such an amazing and wholesome, as wholesome as suicide could possibly be, blaze of glory. I am shocked that the case on this was only closed so recently. I hope you found the peace you were looking Beebo.

Which makes it very curious to me what your thoughts will be post-watch.

Post vid clarity.

Wendigoon does a great job of telling a story that despite all the coverage and footage we have of the act we know little about the ultimate question: Why? We still don't know why and we'll never know why. To get kinda gay about it, that just kinda adds to the mystique of the whole thing. Isaiah didn't change my thoughts or opinion on Sky King. I don't know of anyone who actually thinks of Rich as a working class hero who stuck it to the man like Isaiah alludes to at one point. The tale of Sky King has been to me one of beautiful tragedy, again gay but I don't know how else to phrase it. Richard admits multiple times in the recording that he is troubled. He never expected to come out of that cockpit alive. I fully believe that. He was as shocked as anyone that he didn't crash after doing a barrel roll. Instead of trying anything after that maneuver he made good on putting the nose down and calling it a night. I disagree with the idea of him suffering from decompression sickness. The part where Wendigoon says that Rich got close to something akin to violent "Dammit Andrew people's lives are at stake" I belive was an attempt at black comedy and ribbing the ATC. He also never loses composure or becomes incoherent. He does get a little emotional when the full weight of what he has done and is going to do hits him. I also never believed that the family had any part at pushing him to do this because no evidence has ever arisen about that. I do agree with Isaiah that no matter how cool the flight of the Sky King was that it wasn't the answer to Rich's problems. There is a widow who will forever bear the scar of wondering what part she played in her beloved's downfall. By all accounts she doesn't deserve that.

Why I remember Rich with any kind of fondness can be best expressed with that first pic in my post. It would've been so easy for Rich to go the way of any of these fucking faggot ass shooters, taking their pain and hatred out on complete innocents who are defenseless against his mayhem but he didn't. He didn't even hurt anyone but himself with the crash which I believe is providence nor did he try to. Had he killed anyone he would be a spectacle that I would have no reverence for. Because of that and all of the recordings I remember Rich as a beautiful soul that I wish I could save but know I can't. Even at his most dark moment he was able to bring some kind of light to the world.

Great video. Would take a hit in the feels again.

Damn, completely took the words out of my mouth. Had listened to it on way home from work, planned to post when home...

Only other thing I could comment on was that it didn't seem like Isaiah was as passionate as he was in other history vids. Has this been a recent trend? I don't watch his horror stuff. Miss his energy when he was talking about stuff like Waco or any of the Bible stuff.

Also his final conclusion felt like he was trying to placate everyone. Didn't want people thinking he was glorifying suicide, but didn't want to piss off the wider internet that likes him.

Oh. Didn't even notice that. I should keep an eye out for that. Considering he's also doing a bunch of podcasts, another explanation could be general exhaustion or its big brother, burnout.

For such a short video, it did feel a little like damage control when he constantly needed to reiterate that suicide is bad.

I don't wanna do conspiracy nutting but I do wonder if this is the end result of the latest dog pile cancelation thing. And while it didn't gain enough traction to do any damage, it did affect Wendi enough to respond.

I think it's just that he feels he's gotten too big and too mainstream that he can't have fun and just be himself anymore. I mean, for god's sake in the first cryptid iceberg he went and explained what an iceberg chart is, like his audience wouldn't already be fully aware of that fact.

First noticed it in the Ted video. Unironically I think that one broke him. Maybe it was all his other projects too, the stalker movie and whatever else he's doing, that's taking a lot of his attention off Youtube.

I think the second part answers the first. Depression and suicide are very touchy subjects. Rich ended his life in a way so spectacular that you'd expect Valkyrie to pull him out of the wreckage. It was absolutely, tits out, balls to the wall cool. It was also suicide, something that you really don't want to portray as cool. I thought he presented it in the best way he could.

He also got married so he probably doesn't have the same time to dedicate to long form videos as he did.

EDIT:
This guy recreates plane crashes using Microsoft Flight Simulator and did 2 videos on Q400

Wendi's little spiel about "The fellas aren't doing great" made me feel a feeling, definitely something I can relate to just as often as not. Really enjoyed the video.

I was also listening to a Lore Lodge video at work today, the one about the axe murderer in New Orleans, and that was recorded from Wendi's house. Apparently they're not only pre-recording Weird Bible but they're doing it in person which should add a lot. He mentioned in the Borrasca video that when he records things they're just on voice chat while recording video locally on both sides so he has to imagine what the other person is doing rather than actually react to it.

Has anyone ever tried Magic Spoon before? Is it just slop Wendigoon only promotes for the extra cash or is it actually decent? The Corpo Memphis artstyle is a big red flag...
I read reviews of it once because I almost bought into it out of curiosity and the consensus was that it's fine. It's no better than other cereals, just hugely overpriced.

Someone reviewed it on here some pages back. TL;DR, it's ok if you can't eat grain (its main selling point), tastes better than competitors but that isn't saying much.

This was my first exposure to Sky King and I agree. It has just enough vagueness and mystery that it seems easy to overlay your problems on the guy and empathize with him. He's certainly not a hero, a hero perseveres, but he did pick a helluva cool way to commit suicide. And screw the airlines, they deserve the negative attention for taking the magic out of flying.

My wife and I tried it out during a Keto stint before they started pushing hard on advertisements. When you're starved for treats like you are with the Keto diet it tastes amazing. The texture and lack of weird powdery grit that you get with most snack substitutes is its main selling point. Nothing crunches in quite the same way as breakfast cereal, but this comes pretty damn close.

That said, it's abhorrently expensive and not worth the price.

I tried it. It's actually pretty good. It's more dry and crunchy than a normal cereal is. It doesn't get soggy as quickly. The flavor is fine, I didn't get any weird aftertaste the way you do with some health foods. They definitely didn't compromise the taste. It can get clumpy in your mouth a bit due to it being made from protein powder basically. There is just one big downside: the price.

From Walmart dot com:

The small non-family sized Kellogg's corn flakes: $3.68/lb
Magic Spoon: $19.36/lb ($8.50 per box)

So that's over 5X the price.

I don't get why wendi does the spiel of "the glowies are gonna get me on this one".
its just part of his shtick, same as constantly leading in to his ad segments by saying how the rest of the video will be something terrible and depressing and make him feel bad when its not really anything bad at all.

I keep seeing it for $4 at Grocery Outlet.

I think I brought it up in-thread first. IMO Magic Spoon is the best keto/low-carb cereal I've had, but you have to understand the field that "best" is in. It's the Halo Top of sweetened cereal.

Magic Spoon didn't coat my mouth or get gritty or feel disgustingly moist out of the box or have a stevia aftertaste or make me feel like I was instantly going to turn into the fart beast. I would not pay full price for it, but someone who's on a ketogenic diet for seizures or is just very serious about nutrition, but still craves variety and has nostalgia for sugar cereals-- that person would probably appreciate Magic Spoon a lot.

(Ironically, I'm probably less impressed by Magic Spoon now because I grew up in a household that was serious about breakfast cereal, so my fond childhood memories are being stoked because we got Raisin Bran as a treat. There were no Loops.)

Is it really that vague or mysterious? He mentioned how he thought his wages sucked to coworkers, mentioned how his death might raise wages for ground service workers and said he couldn't get an promotion to a pilot because he was a white guy. Seems like he was mentally ill and bailed out of life because he had a breakdown over perceived obstacles keeping him from getting the job he wanted.
