98, but the majority are green water, meaning they can't travel far, and are based on 60-year-old designs. Their deep water fleet is mostly made up of marginally upgraded Romeos. Big numbers don't mean much when most of what makes up the number is either useless or obsolete.

And if given that authority, I would use it the day I sign the bill into law.”
The pending compromise would not give him much choice. Under the emerging deal, the administration would be required to shut down the border to migrants attempting to enter without prior authorization if encounters rise above 5,000 on any given day — a threshold that has been surpassed routinely in recent months.

I love the NPC Bot comments. "The GOP blocked funds for border control! They caused this!" without any mention of the fact such funds were being used by Border Control to ALLOW these people in and process them faster into illegal immigrants. It's a real blatant spin that only works on someone with exactly 0 interaction and in a environment where any questioning or reply can be blocked.

Such questions regarding a nuclear war are purely academic and not really aplicable to the modern world.
In the days between the 1950s and 1991 the question of a large scale nuclear war was a big one, and wargaming like this and counting up the needed strikes and how much would damage a country was a serious question. However this hasn't really been the case since the mid 1990s as globalization and more than anything the move towards a very high speed digital backed economy and internet took over. A single nuke nowadays can cause a lot more damage than in the 1950s despite being the same yield due to the EMP effects and the nature of modern economies and "just-in-time" deliveries.
It gets worse once you account for the underlying foundations of the USA and most of Europe. Even back in the 1950's it was cauculated that a single nuclear strike on a large population city (they used Detroit as a example back then, since it wasn't broke and run down and was important) would overwhelm the entire local hospital capacity to the point of causing bandage shortages and widespread chaos. Similar calculations were done for the UK, West Germany, and most of the Warsaw Pact (although the Warsaw Pact figured they had a better chance at weathering the storm officially, unofficially everyone knew these papers had been made to look better for propaganda and morale purposes and understood they were just as fucked as the west).
It doesn't matter if Ivan gets off a single SLBM with 250kt and aims it at D.C. only to miss by 10 kilometers and hit the outskirts of the city, the chaos it would unleash would kill and cause more economic damage than the nuke itself.
