Can any of our resident manga/anime spergs shed some light on a question of mine? Are there any successful black manga/anime creators in Japan? Just from a cursory glance as someone with zero knowledge of the medium but lots of knowledge about the Japanese being hyper-racist, my assumption is no and there probably never will be.
Actually, yes but this man lived most of his life in Japan. Rene Hoshino, he mostly publishes his work on Twitter and JP Twitter is a big deal.

Edit: He is very token and more of a media darling of diversity, rather than a breakout success. His art:

What Frankie has to realize is that the old way of making Manga isn’t really the ideal thing it used to be. There are far superior ways to appeal to the manga market and sector. Webmanga/Twitter manga is the way to go and despite the Qualified Invoice Tax fiasco, indie and self publishing is the way to go. It will always be the way.

We all suggested he do a webcomic. Not that I really wanted to piss in his cheerios but Weekly Jump is not a starting point. It's a final destination for a career.

That and getting into Jump is hard. You need to win like two to three beginner’s awards before you even get work there. Even then, you’re still a freelancer (Which again, qualified invoice tax is a chore so good luck).

Just because your work is published with Jump doesn’t mean you work with them. It just means they publish your work.

I could signal out any character but Ara seemed the most muddy to me. Also the biggest bit of wish fulfillment. She loves Elliot for no reason instantly. She acts like a child, a "knock on my head and stick my tongue out" type of ditz. Not to mention she is built like a model. These characters do exist in shonen but usually the "love interest" plays second fiddle to the action. Monostar seems the really like this character and wants to put her into the story heavily. Good characters are walking contradictions (to various levels.)
Ara is the worst character because she's fucking yellow fever incarnate.

The sad thing about Ara is that she falls 100% in line with the bimbo archetype with no twist. There's a lot of potential in having a seemingly dumb character be much smarter than they act or act innocently with sinister intentions. Wouldn't it be interesting if Ara fucking hated her father and was simply getting close to Elliot as a tool to stir shit up? It's not an uncommon story in general for children raised by authoritarian parents to fall into delinquency as a form of escape.

There's zero characterization with Ara besides the fact that she:
-Hugs Elliot unprompted multiple times
-Has weird dreams about zombies and Elliot
-Wants his dick

Give her some wants besides Elliot's cock, some dreams that aren't Elliot's cock, some hobbies that aren't Elliot's cock. You can have her practice the piano (the epitome of asian parenting) when Elliot gets introduced into the household. Have her be the only daughter, which puts the low birthrate of Korea into the picture and gives context to Dong Suk's paranoia. Make her straight-out evil. Wouldn't it be interesting if Ara saw Elliot as nothing more than a dumb nigger she could use to torture her father, and then slowly realize that he's kind of cute?

A single Google search reveals cultural differences between America and Korea. Much like other East Asian countries, there’s a lot more indirect communication and the concept of “saving face”, which makes Bai Dong Suk’s direct confrontation with Elliot make him sound like a red-blooded American. Realistically, if we were to consider the setting, Bai Dong Suk would silently ice him out considering the shamufurl dishpray of this Baka gaijin foreigner breaking all the cultural norms the minute he stepped off the plane.

Why did they choose to host an American anyway, if he hates them? Father has the final say in these kinds of decisions regardless of how much his daughters want the BBC.

See, that's doing proper research into trends, culture and the state of Korean Peninsula.
That's why if Red Mist is to be what Frankie wants, he needs to rewrite the setting entirely to be in America or take the advice given here on this thread to rewrite and shoefit the story.

Because I'm going to be honest, I feel like people like me, @Waifu Days, @DEAD BIRD, @Admiral Throbnelius, @Super Dilator Duel 3D, etc have been all giving story fixes that would make Red Mist more tolerable and even more interesting. Frankie should be looking at underutilized characters like Bai Dong-Suk, and even like Ara. The character roster should be merged, simplified and even streamlined for this if this is supposed to be Frankie's big break.

Yes.

I’ve said it before in this thread, Unless your name is Yoshihiro Togashi; You’re not getting carte Blanche.
And their editors don't just have a little bit of leeway either, I remember a story involving an editor and this small time mangaka called Akira Toriyama, where they made him change the fucking villains of the cell saga like four? times:

The first set he presented Dr. Gero and his editor said "too old" so he created android 17 and 18, to which his editor said "they look like punks", he creates Cell and his editor then replied "he looks too alien", he made cell evolve once to which his editor said "his face looks stupid", he then just made perfect cell a pretty faced alien bugman with a chiseled face and ONLY THEN the editor got off his ass.

Niggastar faggotknuckling would be screeching and shouting "DAS RAYCIS" and "MUH DIKE" by the second time his editor said anything.
