(Haven't personally had to deal with spam on AO3 but used to have to field it all the time on ff.net and livejournal back in the day. No, it's fanfiction.net where you can't report anonymous comments. AO3 I believe you've always been able to, though to my knowledge it (like most sites) doesn't have a dedicated feature for reporting pedos, it's mostly used for spam. What AO3 recently instituted was the ability to block, which doesn't work on anonymous commenters (though you can opt to turn off anon comments entirely).
fanfiction.net is a much older website and much more shoddily run. It's never been good, the only reason why it got popular was because it was one of the first places where you could easily post fanfic without having to host your own site or wall it away in dedicated forums/blogsite groups. There's a reason why it's practically dead nowadays.

To be honest, it genuinely delights me that classic works have fanfic for them. It means that there are people out there who read and engage with them in the exact same way they read and engage in "lesser" works. Instead of elevating a book to some high pedestal where they can only be engaged with as some kind of academic thought exercise. When these books came out they were "just" books, not cultural keystones, thats something that got assigned to them after the fact that typically the authors never even thought would happen. Engaging with the books the same way you would engage with, say, Harry Potter is more in-keeping with what the authors would have expected when they wrote them - they expected people to like the books and the plot and the characters, as their own things, not to write 50-page essays doing deep analysis of the themes, and treating anyone who didn't as "sacrelige'.
Actually, I have a personal stake in this, because I've often been involved in academic discussion of Dostoyevsky's books and it always drives me crazy how dry and sober everyone is about it. Dostoyevsky is one of the funniest authors I've ever read! His books have a certain humor to them that always gets completely overlooked because people only want to approach them as "classic literature" which means "you're not allowed to laugh". Character analysis also always falls flat because people refuse to engage with the characters as actual characters instead of literary tropes with dialogue. I like Dostoyevsky because I like his books, not because I think it makes me look intelligent and cultured to say I like Dostoyevsky. So I say God bless the classic lit fanfic writers - they're here because they genuinely enjoy what they read, not because they want it to be a pretentious status symboll.

This fic was found in the HOTD fandom, and the author was pained to even spell the name 'Targaryen' right - even when the correct spelling is in the tags. Fic here. I did archive it, but the fic is not yet completed. Not only does the author write that Egg is in this fic - that would be Aegon V, who didn't appear until 90 years later IIRC - but completely ignores that Sunfrye, Aegon II's dragon, ate Rhaenyra and her kids are supposed to be cool with that. The writing was so shit I barely made it past two chapters. The sex, though...oh, that's even worse.
So, a bit of a background: the author here is writing an ABO fic, and Aegon has both male and female genitalia because he's 'intersex'. He was apparently shamed and excommunicated from his family for daring to have a vagina, despite having a functional penis as well.

AO3 and period fics are a weird combination. Pooner man-period fic is pretty much a trope unto itself, and I have literally never seen one that was actually well-written even if you can ignore the trans aspect. Like you said, it's almost always written like periods are the worst, most crippling thing in the world and you can't function while on them. Like if these are all based on the author's personal experiences then those lil pooners need to get themselves to the gyno, because that is not normal.
An author I mentioned in an earlier post once wrote a non-pooner period fic wherein a perfectly healthy female character decides to go off of birth control (since she didnt need it, it was a lesbian fic so nobody was gonna get knocked up) and started getting periods again. There was so much reeing in the comments about it that I think a bunch of comments actually had to get deleted and an author's note had to be added begging people not to share graphic personal details of their IRL menstural cycles with an internetl stranger. Apparently a bunch of people were absolutely appalled that periods were being presented as being no big deal, and not something that you had to do everything you could to get rid of. Sadly I didn't notice the new fic until after this had all gone down.
