RWBY - The Hindenburg on which Rooster Teeth rests its hopes, dreams and future

Call me pessimistic, but don't have any faith in them anymore,
I don't think anybody here does.

I just miss the days this show was cheesy, but fun show with cute anime girls instead of the pretentious, badly written woke mess with terrible character designs and boring choreography it is now.
I think a lot of people do.

As the resident lore faggot that tends to over think every aspect of something like this, RWBY was that sweet spot of having just enough questions to fuel speculation and creativity, but not so many that the entire fucking franchise became a 'mystery box' slog that took itself too seriously.

You could question what the deal with the Grim was, but still enjoy the core concept of cute girls doing cool things. You could wonder about the war mentioned, but also just chill and clap at the outrageously, and intentionally, stupid weapon design.

Then Oum died, and it became the hyper serious, shipper-bait drag we're stuck with today.

And for the record, I don't think that Oum surviving would've saved the show. I remember Dead Fantasy, and, despite having no dialog, that shit was going down the same path as RWBY. Start with cute girls doing cool fights, wind up having 'deep mysteries' and over-thought bullshit.

The explanation of how Grimm are created has irreparably damaged the story of RWBY, and I am not joking. The entire Grimm thing could have been easily stopped by Ozpin pretty much at any time pre-fall of Beacon. Before the explanation, people assumed that negative emotions not only drawed Grimm in, but created them (and so the Great War makes sense). It was considered a natural phenomenon. The explanation, instead, showed that there is like one area from where ever Grimm comes. The obvious solution is sealing it away via ship and air barricades, or just walls. Instead, Ozpin never did that, despite controlling effectively all of the Kingdoms.

For every plot point they overly explained, you can probably find a similar problem. The benefit is minimal if any, and the damage is severe

I explained my problems with the Grimm issue in more detail here:

I liked when the lore was mysterious liked you said. But to be completely honest, I have found all their explanations to the lore dissapointing as hell. To the point I legit would rather they had never explained anything.

”Oh the world was created by two boring douche gods just so we could have our “brothers Grimm Pun”.”
”by the way the creator gods come from rip-off wonderland. And some smith goddess made them.” (Killing their mystery in one swoop).
“Salem is just an ancient human with a childish tantrum trying too hard to sound smart and edgy.”
”The maidens only exists because Ozpin was too retarded to see the consequences of giving OP magic to random young women that might become evil or apathetic anyway”.
”Oh the relics can do some gimmick magic but are useless in the grand shame of things. Objectively worse than if they had been cliche wish granting devices,”

I find that entire plotline just bizarre.

Start:
"NOOOOOOO! SALEM YOU CAN'T WISH FOR THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE BACK! THAT'S AGAINST THE RULES! WE ARE PUNISHING YOU NOW!"

End:
"We're bringing Ozma back to life"

Like, is it just me, or does that seem weird? Nothing changed their mind on rules or resurrections. That whole plotline was supposed to make Salem look selfish, but she was genuinely wronged for no reason. And then when she actually did something wrong (the war against the Gods), they punished everyone but her.

I never liked that episode even when ignoring the fact that the narrator outright lies at points for no conceivable reason.

Okay, see, this could work if (assuming RWBY continues as a show) they bring it all back. Let's assume for a moment that the Relic of Destruction doesn't work (and really which of the Relics works as advertised?), how do you kill Salem? By killing the powersource of the Gods - the Tree. No power - No Gods - No immortality.

There's holes to poke there sure, but this could work.

Then again, they might have never considered this and just did that revelation because they could.
“Salem is just an ancient human with a childish tantrum trying too hard to sound smart and edgy.”
I feel like that's an unfair characterization. That fits the Gods more than her.
”The maidens only exists because Ozpin was too retarded to see the consequences of giving OP magic to random young women that might become evil or apathetic anyway”.
This reminds me of something. The Maidens have been confirmed to be weakening Ozpin. Why does he keep them? The doors protecting the relics were made by him (as Maidens didn't exist prior to Ozpin, and Magic users were destroyed by the Dark Brother God), and if he can make it, it is reasonable to assume Salem could too. Ozpin never uses the Maidens, and they seem to serve zero purpose in the story that couldn't be replaced by just making four keys.

”Oh the relics can do some gimmick magic but are useless in the grand shame of things. Objectively worse than if they had been cliche wish granting devices,”
Fuck the relics. I fucking hate how fucking useless they all seem to be. Relic of knowledge lies to you, except when it comes to the villains; Relic of Creation doesn't create anything lasting meaning all it can do is remove the time of construction, Relic of Choice gives you vision of one random choice you will have to make at a random point in your life, and I'm going to assume the Relic of Destruction doesn't destroy, because why the fuck would it.

They do. But to be fair Salem's reasoning to genocide humanity is still nonsensical to me. Juss a little less than them.

She is not the wise goddess Tyrian, the scorpion dude thinks she is.

Keep in mind there is a difference between intent and what was actually shown. But I concede that she was wronged too.

That's what Ozpin (biased) and that psychopathic Tyrian thinks she will do. She has personally never shown any desire for Genocide. In fact she originally ruled Humanity with Ozpin as kind Gods who would help them after the Brothers left. Even in this days she claims to want a new world order, not necessarily death of humanity.

I'll be 100% with you, I don't trust Tyrian's judgements of characters, so yeah, I totally agree.

NEW RWBY PRODUCT!

…what no, it’s not Vol 10. It’s RWBY trading cards.
IMG_1596.jpeg

There’s even a change one of your cards could be signed by one of the maincast VA’s.

FFS, I feel like it’ll be more of a mercy kill to end the series at this point.
Notice that like all the products, this one also doesn’t say that the funds are to raise for the show. WHY AREN’T they doing this? I’d buy their shitty cards if it was a crowdfunding sorta deal.

Because the funds aren't going to make the show, it's to keep the lights on in the graveyard of an office they have

What's the current status of the show and RT? Last time i checked, They were either close to, or are on life support.
Roosterteeth is cancelling shit left and right, including RTX, while claiming "No, everything is fine, we just want to make sure all our ducks are in a row".
Layoffs of a lot of people who either were someone audiences liked or someone that responded by airing the companies dirty laundry.
RWBY was revealed to cost $30,000/minute, an astronomically high amount for what it is.
Videos on just about everything they release haven't broken 50k in 4 months, and even then it was one video discussing their future. Discounting that, it's been 7 months.

So yeah, company's doing good, fully expect them to be rich and worth eleventybillion dollars next year, and totally not shuttered and dismantled by their parent company.

Speaking of RT successes, why are they still doing the vtuber Ruby shit? I haven’t heard a single fan of RWBY mentioning they’ve watched it; or even a single fan or vtubing. Who does it appeal to, and why are they bleeeing money on this?
I'm sure even NSFW crap is more worth than the entire value of this show.

I remember seeing a post on r/rwbycritics asking if they were trying to get money for V10 via those vtuber streams. Everytime i think of that post, it makes me chuckle a bit.

Considering that the main subreddit for RWBY has less members than the NSFW subreddit...

Can't imagine they're bleeding money on it - they already bought all the stuff (the avatar, the rigging, etc) and the VAs are all on the clock anyhow - may as well have them do something.

Damn. The more I hear about RT's situation, the more I am sure the leads were more worried about protecting their cushy lives in Texas than making RWBY watchable.

$30,000 is insane. There was no reason not to outsource RWBY to an animation studio.

Genuinely, what part of this demands that much fucking money? The show looks like something you could make in blender or sfm with enough effort. Is it for the VA's or what?

I can’t imagine this is breaking even, though. Maybe fire everyone non-essential until you have a plan and funding to actually do something would be the better option.

And if they are struck for the first time in their lives by ethics, they could also have done this cheaper. Difference in visual quality between Vol 1 and 6 is not $30,000 a minute worth. Early RWBY looked pretty good, and wasn’t super expensive (they also did this super weird thing called not animating background characters that don’t do shit. Then even joked about those characters later in Chibi).
Is it for the VA's or what?
I believe Barbara meant it for animation alone, but I also just in general never believe her
