Rocksteady teases Suicide Squad game

As for why they did it, my best guess would be either because DC is known for its villains, or they saw Harley Quinn get massive popularity via Asylum and wanted to ride it.
Something just struck me

Wasn't 2009/2010 around the time Marvel was pushing The "Dark Avengers" where Osborn got a position in the government and had the Thunderbolts masquerade as the Avengers?

Is it possible *that* was the catalyst for them pushing the Suicide Squad that far back?

Too much of a stretch.

I think the real reason is the simplest, they just wanted a Harley Quinn IP. Suicide Squad wasn’t built to be about the Squad, it was built to be Harley and friends. Every project outside of Gunn’s film always centers around Quinn and Deadshot with the other characters feeling like accessories at best.

Harley gained an extreme amount of traction in a short period of time after the Arkham Asylum redesign. Ever since, it has been obvious that Warner wants her to be the face of DC be it the Hot Topic merch, SS as a brand, The Birds of Prey movie, Batman & Harley Quinn, Injustice and the 2020 animated series. She is arguably more overused these days then the Joker and has been girl-bossified to be some feminist icon. It would make sense if SS was just supposed to be her supporting cast and nothing else.

I actually really liked that arc. They were corrupt as shit but actually attempted to fight major threats to mixed success. Sort of a more competent and grounded the boys style "superhero" team. The most important thing is it ended at the right time and wasn't drawn out to hell and back. I don't think it really played a part but I was not paying attention to DC at the time.

It's kinda sad how fun the pre order costumes look for this. If I didn't know it was shit I'd be tempted to buy. The justice league outfits look fun as well. Shame the game is so mean spirited to the justice league

I feel like it would have been ok and not outright terrible if they didn't make the whole point killing the justice league instead of curing them. Or actually put some effort in and giving
You the choice on what to do.

I am usually pretty positive, but I don’t think there was anything saving this game or concept. The entire project was a corporate mandate from top-to-bottom, driving this certain lack of passion that feels readily apparent.

The gameplay philosophy is directly opposed to that of Arkham, designing the characters to fit the game rather than building a game to fit the characters. They have to give the SS powers they never had to justify the plot. Adding onto this is their insistence that the main 4 are different, yet only showing gun play. The giant world also runs opposed to the SS concept of being a covert team just used to deal out whatever petty squabbles Waller has. It should be a linear game of taking out high profile political figures or other supervillains.

None of the characters besides Harley are iconic, and Harley struggles to hold up a brand. It is so bad they had to include Jonkler just to try to get people interested, and still messed it up by having the look be based on the Jared version.

The push to make SS some quirky band of misfits has been a disaster. The concept and intentions do not line up. They are not a group of troubled, but good hearted individuals like the Guardians. They are group of mass murders only held together through threat of death. The whole Harley and her bestest friends concept was a terrible direction, and one in which permeates this title.

There were so many better things WB could be investing in over this concept. If they really wanted a Guardians, Doom Patrol works far better. If they wanted a multiplayer title, a Justice League title or Titans title would be more successful and give the live service aspect way more characters to use than SS. All SS has will likely just boil down to Bat villains or literal whos.

It really is bizarre to see the difference in writing between this and Assault on Arkham, especially considering what you said about the movie being a test run for the later Suicide Squad media. That movie really captured the SS dynamic and found a good way to fit Batman and Joker into it. Everybody was pretty in-character, and it plays out how you would want it to. And then on the other hand there's this nonsense, where nothing makes sense and it feels like Tumblr wrote it.

It started with the 2016 film. Ayer originally designed 2016 to be a dark and serious film, but WB warped it within the editing department pre-release. At the time, DC films were criticized for being to dark thanks to BVS, causing a mad dash at WB to course correct on SS and Justice League.

From there a multitude of things happened. Harley Quinn/Joker became huge in 2016 thanks to their cringe Hot Topic line, proving Harley was the driving force of the IP. Harley increasingly got molded into a major player between her show and the Birds of Prey Movie. Said Birds of Prey film was a creation by Margot Robbie and her film company to try and move Margot away from being Hollywood’s sex toy, so she became adamant in Harley not dressing slutty anymore and making her the quirky girlboss. Meanwhile, the show was always some liberal parody of Batman that increasingly got infested with the usual Twitterinas as it continued. Finally, Gunn became attached to the project, to which he just made a darker Guardians and is now driving the series.

The game itself has been in development hell for a bit. Obviously it was announced in 2010. Then, it was allegedly worked on by WB Montreal after Origins, before Knights, and at some point likely before that Damian Wayne project. The production then got shifted onto RockSteady post-cancellation. Currently, RockSteady is claiming Superman was never being developed, but I am assuming this is a lie to lower criticism of SS. Taking that in, it is likely that after Knight, they pitched Superman then got saddled with SS. We can probably also assume Gunn got involved with production at some point.

I'm so glad I gave up on superhero stuff for the most part a few years ago. If I was still a big fan of it there's no way I would be happy about Batman being killed in such a manner especially to someone like Harley Quinn. As a whole this kill the superhero thing is really dumb and just alienating the people who would play this game. Judging by the comments on that video I think a lot of people agree with me. This is going to be the game that kills Rocksteady isn't it?

Don't you just love how the send off for the protagonist of the last four games can't maintain any level of sincerity for more than a second?

Also, it's confirmed Batman did kill Tim. So much for 'OUt oF ConTExt'.

Early access is out in Australia, let's see how that checks out:

Oh, oh dear... The tweet in question.
I like this tweet, though.

Basically people paid like $100+ to get the early access I think, so... because of a critical bug that AT ANY POINT IN TIME A COMPETENT DEV TEAM WOULD HAVE FOUND AND FIXED BEFORE LAUNCH people are having their 72 hour early access eaten up because the game doesn't play offline. Some people are asking to be reimbursed for this and that ain't happening. Hope Schreier is happy that he got rid of all the white men.

All the leaks were fucking true! Where's MUHH CONTEXT?

What was the name of that "good leaker" faggot who downplayed the leaks saying they lack crucial context, as opposed to the "bad leaker" hated by Reddit soyboys because he was 100% accurate and correct?

Try and remember every public figure who did damage control for Warner Brothers and disregard anything they ever have to say in the future.

This is TLOU2 all over again, except instead for talentless mUh SuBvErTiNg ExPeCtAtIoNs frauds like Neil Cuckmann (how're your new Hollywood friends treating you, was it worth losing all your loyal fans?) and Rian Johnson (where is your Star Wars trilogy, roundhead fucker?), this is the product of a whole committee of diversity niggerettes fixing yo games ya Sweet Sweeeeet Baby who actively hate you, your hobbies, and will gaslight you for shaming them for THIS being Kevin Conroy's final performance, yet will stoop as low as use his death to market this conceptually DOA piece of live-service shit to you.

You pay 80-100 fucking dollars for an essentially F2P zoomer writing OH HOW QUIRKY AND SO RANDOM HAHA game, and they can't even keep the servers running for longer than an hour on launch day, 10 years after the last game in the series whereas we got three over the span of 7 years last time!

I knew 100% this was coming (even freaking IGN was critical and YOU KNOW if IGN criticizes an AAA game, it'll be bad !) and somehow those niggerfaggots STILL got me angry like I just watched The Last Jedi after learning of Carrie Fisher's death in 2017.

It's okay. Enjoy. I will in turn enjoy seeing all of you get laid off, and your game thrown in the $5 bin same year it released.

Something Miller, heard he's on twitter doing damage control right now about how the Justice League totally aren't dead and that'll be revealed in season 4 of post-launch content.

This is TLOU2 all over again
It's even worse. At bare minimum, TLOU2 gave Joel a send off. It wasn't good, but even Druckman realized that killing off the protagonist of the last game is a big deal and should have gravitas with characters that have connections to him should be involved in that story. Here? The story doesn't give a shit about Batman, none of the character who care about him or have any personal dynamic with him are present in the story, and the character we do have are focused on fucking about because they're not invested in the drama. The only way this could be worse is if you made his death an optional side quest.

He's in full denial and his idiot followers will no doubt keep listening

Yeah, sure, pay $100 and *maybe* you get full story half a year later, just listen to the no-name soyface dude with comments turned off

lmao even

I feel like they made every single wrong choice when creating this game.

Just the basic story pitch is bad. Look I'm a Batman fan, I read about DC Comics, and I love Harley Quinn. There's a HUGE problem with your playable characters because I don't care at all for King Shark, Captain Boomerang, or Deadshot. I know Deadshot has some fans but those other 2 are D-Listers.

I don't want to play this game campaign for more than 10 hours max, and it's some live service RPG shit so that means you're supposed to keep going back to this game for months even years? No thank you. I liked the Batman Arkham games because I'd be them in a couple weeks. They didn't wear out their welcome.

How many games could they have made in the timeframe they took to make this trash? Just mediocre.

When a developer won't send IGN of all companies a review copy you just know that the game is bad. Looking forward to the Reddit soyboys making excuses for this piece of shit rather then admitting that their beloved superhero goyslop game is bad.

This shit is DOA. It's going to be in bargin bins before the end of the month.

All they had to do was do Origins 2. Instead it's like they intentionally picked every wrong option possible.

Also, blatant tumblirinas as writers need to fuck off and be blacklisted from the industry. WB needs to do a massive purge in their game departments.
