Careercow Donald J Trump - 45th/47th President of the USA, convicted felon, Epstein bro, Putin simp, serial liar, sore loser, cheat and the Chris-Chan of Presidents. THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL DEBATE THREAD.

Trump found guilty of $83.3M worth of punitive damages for defaming E. Jean Carroll. Seven men, two women. Eighty three million because he won't shut the fuck up. Time to sell more Trump merch.
Oh my, who would have thought the completely foreseeable consequences of his actions would actually happen.

Trump cultists will still claim that it's all rigged and he's sure to win on appeal. Never mind the fact that he'll have to post the full amount of the award just to appeal in the first place.

I'm not that familiar with the case but I don't think he was actually convicted of anything, but he still has to pay (why?), plus where do they get this outrageous figures from? Defaming a journalist has to be a public service I would have thought.

He wasn’t “convicted” of anything in this trial, he was found liable for defamation and this trial was to assess damages. You don’t “convict” people in a trial like this. The jury only decided how much he was liable for.

For a quick summary:
She claimed Trump raped her in her book, What Do We Need Men For? A Modest Proposal. Trump claimed she was working with the opposing political party and defamed her by blatantly lying about her intentions and posting on social media about it. Carroll sued him for defamation, not assault, because the statute of limitations had run out. She already got $5 million from him months ago, this trial was to assess damages.

Even after being hit with an 83 million dollar fine, he’s still on Truth Social, running his mouth about the trial and Carroll.

And to that point, "punitive damages" are just that, punitive - they're meant to punish the liable party for their conduct so are very heavy compared to actual damages in a case like this.

Due to the lower standard of evidence in civil vs. criminal court, you can be found civilly liable for the related tort even if you are found not guilty of the crime itself. That's exactly what happened to OJ Simpson.

Considering how much she got out of this perhaps this was her intention? It's not beyond the realms of possibility. Couldn't Trump argue that she was defaming him by making an unproven accusation against him?

I also don't see how her reputation is worth 83 million dollars. I assume that figure was made up by her lawyers who will take their commission from it.

Most of that $83m is punitive damages. Compensatory damages were only $18.3m.

But I don't see how her reputation is worth that, either. She was a Literally Who before this public tangle with Trump, now she's a star and a media darling.

It just seems that she accused him of something and he responded and they punished him for it. Perhaps it is poltically motivated?

On a somewhat related note; seems Dimitry Medvedev has stated that, in light of what is going on in Texas, a "People's Republic of Texas" is a realistic possibility.

How long do you think it'll be before MAGA conservatives and proud red-blooded Texans realize he essentially called the state a potential communist country?

The main thing that the guy got wrong is that the huge flux of migrants is due to incompetence. It's not.

It's purely malice on the part of both traitors in the US government who love human trafficking and the destruction of national identity, and rich capitalists who can't bear the thought of paying workers more because lower fertility will cause the price of labor to go up (also of their doing, they promoted degeneracy and the destruction of the nuclear family).

That said, Donald Trump hardly did a damn thing last time, so...

Republicans keep going against anything to secure the border because they think it'll help their elderly, obese conman waifu to win the election if the border is unsecure. Seriously.

No, they keep going against bills that will add unnecessary powers to the executive and keep funding for Ukraine rolling.

The Democrats refuse to present anything resembling a clean bill or that doesn't include "1 million migrants have to illegally enter the country per minute before the president is reequired to act".

As per usual, congress is nothing more than a dog and pony show where both sides are trying to feed poison pills to the other while accomplishing nothing.

Uh huh. Trump himself has told Republicans to refuse any bill that will help with the border and since he's their (and your) elderly, obese conman waifu, they do whatever he says

I love president El Trumpo - I’m half minded to fly to Chihuahua and get myself arrested breaking into USA just so he can deport me. Deport me harder Daddy!. And that E Jean Christmas Carrol slag has eyes like piss holes in the fucking snow.
