Will Stancil is a research fellow at the University of Minnesota and prolific Twitter argument-seeker whose commitment to a public persona of Good At Statistics and confidence in his own intelligence has brought him into conflict with both online leftists, mainstream media commentators and dissident right personalities alike.
He is a proponent of the theory of "vibecession" - that the American economy is in fact doing excellently under Biden and is merely being *talked down* in the media (both mainstream and social).
His recent flailing fights with Steve Sailer (and subsequent to that, much of the dissident right ecosystem) over DEI in air traffic control have brought renewed attention to him, his inablity to argue his own case and his inabilityto stop posting when directly countered.

Stancil has a Substack ( https://stancilculture.substack.com/ ) where he posts paeans to vaccination and Joe Biden, and expounds on his theory of "vibes" being more important that physical reality for politics. Sample post ("A Message For Joe Biden")
You did good. The economy is very strong. You passed an astonishingly large portion of your agenda under difficult conditions. You have written your name down in history as one of the most successful domestic policy presidents of all time. Against all odds, you have exceeded your Democratic predecessor, despite him entering office with large majorities you never had.
He's had occasional columns in The Atlantic before:
Stancil is a longstanding Twitter/X user, having signed up for the site in 2009. He's a prolific poster, having racked up 117K tweets by January 2024, an average of just under 22 posts a day for 14.5 years.
He's prominent enough in online discourse to have gotten directly into a slapfight with presidential candidate Marianne Williamson:
He really doesn't think white people should be comfortable around other white people:

Vibecession - Don't Believe Your Lying Eyes, The Economy is GREAT
Stancil is a big proponent of the idea that the American economy is doing fantastically, and it is only people's impression of the rest of the world mediated through TV and social media that has them convinced things are bad. This general idea has been called the "vibecession" by Stancil and others.Previous A&N thread on "Vibecession"

This has caused friction with online leftists who believe he's just downplaying the effect on the poor.
One user was apparently energised enough by the debate to post details of Stancil's lunch order online:
The War on Noticing - Stancil Beclowns Himself Fighting The Dissident Right For Days (And Days, And Days, And Days...)

(h/t The Jokeocracy Show https://twitter.com/the_jokeocracy/status/1751424585176695115 https://archive.is/1YHm3 )
In late January of 2024, Stancil decided to quote-tweet (a now vanished) post on the subject of America's recent troubles with planes and DEI
This prompted a response by Steve Sailer, longtime columnist and internet commentator where he pointed out the New York Times has been writing stories about ATC becoming worse, and the Obama admin lowering standards to hire more blacks.
He then linked to a column of his in Taki's Mag about the issue.
This response seriously triggered Stancil, leading to subsequent spluttering quote tweets of Sailer
This initial reaction (and amused prodding by various members of the online right) started a multi-day posting-through-it session that as of the time of writing this, shows no sign of stopping.
Stancil attempts to defeat Sailer ... by retweeting racial cuck fantasy posts:
Stancil continues on with the somewhat novel take of "when I use statistics they are Moral, Sailer's statistics are Immoral":
Stancil responds huffily to being quote-tweeted by satire account Drukpa Kunley, insisting on the importance of his degree:
To which another user points out he literally just has a degree in Black
Stancil goes on to claim that the "Trump right" literally are going to bring back Jim Crow
Aimee Terese took notice of Stancil's exuberant Anti-Racism posting and collected together a thread of his thoughts on white men (he does not like them):
Stancil continues, posting, and posting, and posting...
Stancil, posts and posts some more - it's been days at this point, and now he's accusing Sailer of posting as a performance just to sell copies of the $400 limited leatherbound version of his columns collection
(That the regular paperback version is available for less than $30 goes uncommented on)
Stancil posted, hurt, that not enough people were tweeting in his defense on X:
Apparently enough of Stancil's flailing had reached famous right-wing activist Chris Rufo's "For You" tab on Twitter that he felt compelled to respond
A no-pic anon account attempts to bait Rufo, Stancil says that Rufo will be too afraid to answer, and then Rufo answers eleven minutes later with his longstanding culturalist position:
Passage Press, publisher of Steve Sailer's anthology of columns "Noticing", even started offering free shipping with the code "STANCIL" to rub salt in the wound.
At the time of writing Stancil STILL has not stopped posting against Sailer. It's been a week with no signs of it ending.
