Anyone else start off really liking Ben and then by the end of season 2 just thinking he was being a fucking asshole for no reason? It also clearly wasn't even a bit he seemed genuinely sick of the fish and pissed off.
I think the attack therapy and other cult tactics fucked with the Wiggers as well as the Fish.
Many have already said that S2 had an ominous atmosphere and I agree.

On the day of the hammering, Jet told Dunyae, Tai, Trish, Brittany, TJ, and Tay to fuck with Jimmy.
A constant stream of negative and antagonistic messages was sent to Jimmy via TTS, a few by production.
Jet didn't allow Jimmy to isolate himself when things became overwhelming.

The escalation to the point of explosion was caused by Jet and production.

Jimmy wouldn't have endured with Jet in charge, but we will never know if Jimmy would have lasted if Jet were a rational producer.
Jimmy should have been kicked out when he almost bashed Taylor’s skull in. He was always an unhinged person with or without production interference. I remember he thought that JC was a literal CCP spy. In the future, they need to have a zero tolerance policy for any sort of assault.

Wrong. Jimmy should have been given a sledgehammer, and 50 tiny women freeloaders should have been added to the tank. The tiny women should have been given needles and the mission to prick Jimmy.

That would have been truly neptunian.

PS JC is a CCP spy.

He was that way during S1 as well, its the character he is playing when dealing with the fish, the few times he pops up in the episodic format of S1 you can see him acting exasperated and annoyed with them over the shit in the closet, but whenever he is not directly dealing with them you can see that its an act. He is normally a mellow individual who is good at witty responses and appears to be a rather rational guy, when Tay was absolutely fucking obliterated and vomiting into a pot during that 10+ shot night he wasn't acting when he commented on how fucking retarded it was to get so wasted the night before the finale when you're going to be expected to be fresh in the morning, but he didn't seem aware that Sam basically incentivized Tay into doing it by claiming she was going be rewarded with an advantage if she did something memorable that evening.

Ben seems to have a better understanding of the emotional balance of the fish than Jet for sure, after the Taymaker he had Trish and Tay sitting in B1 and continuously kept coming back to break the ice by telling stupid stories in an attempt to get them to laugh and move past it. He just kept getting caught flatfooted by the mental illness issues and the fish going off medication like Megan stopping pills so she could drink. He seems to have a better grasp of when to go hot and cold when fucking with the fish, he was apart of the "dogfucker" TTS spam on Jimmy the night before the mallet incident but he immediately ended it there that evening, Jet on the other hand kept going hard while Ben was sleeping the next day and got Danye, Tay, Trish, and Britney to keep the heat on and it ended up with Jimmy getting kicked.

Yeah, Zoomies really don't understand how bad immersion breaking can be, nor how to be properly "meta". Of cast and production, only Sam and Tai really know how and when to break the fourth wall in a manner that's entertaining rather than disruptive or annoying, likely due to their experience with comedic timing.
I partially blame Marvel/millenial writing for this. How many mainstream works in the past five years lay out a premise, then take that premise totally seriously and never give a wink-wink nudge-nudge to lampshade how ridiculous it is? Not all that many. It's totally understandable that they break the fourth wall every ten seconds, because that's what every character they were raised with does. After all, Deadpool does it and people love Deadpool.

I suspect this is partially the reason Squid Game and k-dramas in general end up going gangbusters with the kids over here, because they usually play their premise completely straight. Sincerity is unfortunately in very short supply these days.

Ben is certainly better than Jet at comedic timing and how to behave on camera but he was also much less fun this season and seemed genuinely spiteful after a point. The whole house just seemed sour after awhile and I think that's a top-down issue.
I think Ben's anger started as a running joke but became real later into the season. You could tell he was actually angry and not acting.

Some of Ben's early season antics and interactions were great, especially the whole "metal in the wood" bit. But eventually I guess him being angry at the fish was no longer an act.

edit: @Sicko Hunter beat me to it

I reiterate - listen to Hong Kong 2
you will learn to hate B*n proper, as I have; I spit when I hear his name ptui 😙💦
First time listener, long time Fishtank watcher. I checked out this episode because I didn't want to hear Jon in the most recent ep... what even is this? What's the point? It's literally guy friends who want to turn their hangout session into a "podcast." Literally a fucking meme.

I'm not able to watch more, can't say I hate Ben proper from this but he is obnoxious as far as I've listened. Can't take any more...

it's like the lottery, you lose every game you don't buy a ticket for
if you exist in the content creation sphere like these fine wiggergents, you will begin to develop the suspicion that you might have a supertalent for podcasting; no, that's ridiculous... but maybe? psshhh no... unless? so you won't find out until you give it the old college try, and maybe YOU can be the next Cumtown

I definitely could sense that there was an open rift between the fish, audience and producers in the final week. All of this was derived from Jet openly telling the fish that they had rigged Trish's elimination, only for Tay to break it and that they had to rerig it. The fish immediately went cold on the show, the only thing they were interested in doing was just settling their ire with Fatty overstepping during the Chris Points skit, they were just looking for the exit and halfassing challenges just to pass the time since the alternative was mind numbing boredom, the producers seemed to understand this and did the beach day thing, but nothing is more annoying to a person than being forced to drink and socialize when they do not want to, and it just ended pissing the fish off even further. The audience would send TTS to the fish shit talking the show and Tay would agree. I had another clip of Tay Trish and Oliver sitting in the living room near the fireplace and just talking about how the production crew had basically given up and there was no plan left for the show.

I think the underlying problem with Season 2 is that they had a fantastically strong cast of likable individuals but leaned way too hard into "hell house" and for way too long when they had too few fish remaining, which made the fish mistrustful and unwilling to just have fun or socialize. The early season goofing off that you had from Tay and Jimmy that filled downtime were lost to just people sitting around pissed and waiting for the next challenge by production which wasn't a cash prize, or even chips, so they would half ass it. Ben just seems to have gotten frustrated with "dead fish" when really it was an slow massacre by him and Jet that made the fish no longer interested in participating in the show or even approaching each other. The TJ-Shinji alliance against Tay wasn't even something that grew organically, Jet had to basically organize it and seal it with blood by having them steal money from Tay.

Honestly, the milk challenge they did the very next day woulda killed him off too. And the Ikea beds. Probably would have been worse with the ikea beds.

I just don't like how they did it, is all. Nobody else got that level of aggression all at once, not even Tayleigh the day she turned the scissors on Frank. They knew they could draw violence out of Jimmy, and they did, but it required Brittany and Tayleigh breaking the "clear the room" and beef bell rules and every antagonistic fishtoy all at once to make it happen.

They had a stretch where Brittany took his shit and moved a bunch of it to the basement, and Goldstriker was watching over her to make sure he didn't do anything, and he didn't not because she was being watched but because he wasn't that pressed. What seemed to actually get him was being in the middle of a beef and discovering Brittany sneaking around instead of attending it. I'm not giving him credit for how he reacted to that I'm just highlighting that was what it took.

Also someone else was saying they had four contestants for too long this season - they had Jimmy until the 22nd day, and last season they lost Damiel on the 20th. Given they ended this season a day early they had four contestants for three fewer days and seemed to literally end because they couldn't take the drag any longer. I don't give Chris credit for the first season not dragging like this, I think it was absolutely because Sylvia, Letty, and Vance were working beyond the competition to keep the audience engaged.

Ben has a lot of potential comedically (content house record, metal in the wood, TTS, pretending to board up Fatty after Tay did it, etc.), but the TJ beef left a sour mood on me in terms of him as a person. TJ's an inexperienced retard, going physically full force on him was petty and dangerous.

As a sidenote, I might be retarded, but I can't help but wonder what Sam had in mind in terms of a comedy routine with Shinji. They had some pretty natural-feeling comedic chemistry throughout the show, and a few similarities in spite of Shinji barely knowing anything about Fishtank let alone Sam. This clip almost felt like a companion piece to the video Sam made for that fake MLP Kickstarter (audio warning for mic peaking/earrape).
