Game Censorship & Localization General Thread

It's amazing how Sega are letting Sega America ruin them AGAIN
Remember how Sega America convinced them to cancel the release of "boring RPGs" like Shining Force 3 and Grandia and "lame 2d games" like Marvel vs capcom 2 and swore Congo The Movie: The Lost City of Zinj would be the beloved hit release people actually wanted
Remember how they assured them Aliens Colonial Marines was going just fine and they should definitely invest all their money in it?
But no, fine, let them ruin everything yet again even while Hyenas losses are still being counted and tranny localizers are ruining PSO2, a franchise they made billions with in japan alone.
tbf SoA got also fucked over by japan more than once, it's just one happy dysfunctional relationship.

Care to elaborate on that? What have they made recently that would be considered "good"?
The recent MGS Collection had a cucked out trigger warning, but it didn't seem to censor anything, unlike Persona 3 Reload, for one thing. They're still shitty too, but I'm unaware of any censorship by them.

Konami is merely incompetent, rather than actively malicious in their ports and localization.

Hey, I've been working on a similar game-focused localization thread on another forum. I used a good amount of images from this thread, but there's likely a lot you haven't seen before as well. The goal is easy navigation in the OP, linking to fan translations/uncensored patches, and showing examples of localizers taking pride in fucking up translations. If there's anything you think I should add or fix, please let me know.

And would you look at that, another censorship company with "baby" in it's name!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Great Ace Attorney Collection also similarly censored?
At least that one needed a localization, as these games were originally only released in Japan. All Apollo games have been released worldwide, this is just an excuse to hire a woke-ology expert to rewrite history

According to their website, Dragonbaby have been around for 30 years and their office is based in Tokyo. They are westerners. They are like Sweet Baby Inc. they even call their employees dragons like how Sweet Baby Inc. calls their employees babies.

Their work includes Editing, Translation, Transcreation (a form of content creation more akin to writing than translation, particularly one involving languages unrelated to each other, such as English and Asian languages.), Localization Quality Assurance, Voice Recording.

These are some of the projects they have worked on in the past. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill 3, Dragon Quest 7, Pokémon TV show 17 seasons, Pokémon movies 1-18.

As posted above Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy is their most recent project. Anything these people have been involved in at least in the past few years should be treated with caution.

Capcom needs to fucking die. I'm surprised they didn't censor the Battle Network Collection (tmk), "only" adding the faggot trigger warnings.

I guess this is how they're going to butcher their classics moving forward. Absolutely fucking worthless, I hope more people pirate their shit.

Do we have the original Japanese script to compare with? Because Capcom shat all over that when it first released the Ace Attorney series to the West.

Given how long this company has been involved and the media they covered were actually decent from my recollection, I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here.

Your average female localizer, fat and mental illness.

Old Ace Attorney games, Ben Judd was the one handling localization and funny enough.

Creepy guy to just a weirdo.

Typical addressing about "woman" is gone.

The bride thing, I'm not sure why they are so upset. Even Katrina herself is already married.

Posted my translation of a prologue scene in Unicorn Overlord in the Switch thread.
The English translation seems to be 75% padded flowery dialogue with absolutely no regard for how it looks in context or aligns with the personalities of characters. I somewhat expected it a few pages back in this thread with the preview screenshots.

The Japanese text is exclusive to the Japanese version of the game (which I'm personally focusing on) so I can't go back-and-forth to provide more examples of EN screw-ups.

yeah these niggas are paid per word for certain

you don't need to know much japanese to tell how much creative liberty is being taken here. you don't even really need to be even able to do things like identify nouns, verbs, or particles. you can tell just knowing that 'skaareto' is probably referring to Scarlett.

it's not something that UO is particularly egregious for, but the ENG localization also tends to write it's women in a way that they come across as much harder, sassier, and more aggressive. it reminds me of how on box art JP Kirby is like :D and NA Kirby is like >:(

This is getting ridiculous. Is there a site that documents all cases of international/regional censorship? It's going to reach a point where I will have to do research on literally any Japanese game I want to play first(inevitably spoiling it to myself) and avoiding any and all remakes/rereleases altogether

https://varishangout.com/index.php?threads/poor-localization-compilation-thread.31/page-25 There is this, but I am sure there are other places doing similar things.

Even without fully understanding japanese yet, and without even listening to the jp audio I can immidiatly tell some faggot localizer that is a failed writer "punched it up" when it reads like some retard theatre kid.
