I think something a lot of people here are overlooking with their critiques is the simple fact that Viv is a shit writer and a fujoshi Tumblrina stuck in her 2000's middle school era. That's all the explanation for why there's so many plot holes, inconsistencies and potentially better story pitches that Viv herself wouldn't be capable of making that you need. Both of her shows are edgy LBGT pandering for zoomers and that's precisely why they're so popular. The fans don't pose all these legitimate questions, they just eat it up because haha swears and muh hot gay babies.

Hazbin was never going to be a genuinely well-researched or clever view on Hell with Vivienne Medrano behind the reins. If you asked her these questions directly her response would be something along the lines of "Idk lol" or "Um actually-".
I like how Viv said she was influenced by Family Guy and South Park yet is oblivious to when they were being critical of religion. Those shows were infinitely better of handling that topic better than Viv ever could, which isn't saying much but you get the point.

Also the fact the fans ship Angel and his rapist is proof the 2nd Coming is nigh.

Yeah, Viv has a way of unintentionally making her villains more sympathetic than the heroes. Not only did Adam have his first and second wife stolen from him, the same guy that stole them screwed up the world that was promised to Adam. And unless it's said or shown in season 2, Adam never took a bite from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, so his eyes were "never opened". It's the same thing that happened with Stella when it was revealed she was just born evil, so she can't be control of her own actions.
Adam did nothing wrong.

Stuck in the 2000s is a good description because even Tumbrl now values character interactions and their identity boxes more than plot driven shows, and the decision to skip months for the pay off of "we're like family now and we love each other" just shows that she doesn't know how to explore characters outside of Devianart's ref sheets template.

and I think that the fate of Hazbin Hotel will end up on the same path as RWBY in terms of what dominates the fandom:
fans who defend every decision because the show is 90% of their personality, ship wars, rewrites, and people who are only there for the porn.

Not sure if people are going to disagree with me here, but I feel like if you are going to write a show based on religion you have to treat that religion with some level of respect, even if you are criticizing it. That clearly isn’t what happened with Hazbin since Viv clearly hates Christianity and can’t view it under any other lens than what a teenage Atheist from the 2000’s thinks of it.

Maybe I missed something but in regards to Carmilla, they established she was an arms dealer early on but I don't think they ever mentioned or implied she sold angelic weapons until revealed at the very end, and it doesn't make sense because if there are enough angelic weapons being bought and sold to become as rich as she is off it, how hasn't a single person in hell prior to now ever tried to use them on an angel? Feels very pulled out of their ass as they went along writing wise.
It's what I call Viz magic: Things just are like I say they are. Will explain the details later.
Pretty much what @The Fair Lady said...

It's not for christians/by christians, it's for Tumblrites, by people who grew on "Christians bad, am I rite fellow atheists" media.

And that means what exactly? How many cartoons even premiere on Amazon?
There was the lego "Monkie Kid" one that was about journey to the west characters in modern times that I've heard was good. That one got gimped initial release wise by the fact they made it a china-streaming-exclusive for like a whole year despite it being in english and having chinese subtitles when that happened. Despite pretty much universal praise I've seen of that one there's like no actual advertising for it and it's sub-categorized into some "amazon kids" shit with infinitely lower effort content. I still need to get around to looking into the thing in full and haven't gotten to it for whatever reason which is kind of hilarious considering how monkey/ape content 's always kinda been my thing. That and skeletons, which that thing also contains. Honestly the only thing holding me back from sitting the fuck down and going through it is probably the fact i'm gonna be spammed with content farm and goyslop tier recommendations endlessly by the internet algorithms if I watch it the legit way. I keep getting reccomended out of context character interactions or fight scenes from that thing and they're just like consistently dynamically animated and weighty in a way that Hazbin and other "amazon originals" seem to lack completely. I'm guessing the reason story and characters are pretty consistent and not getting assasinated or "subverted" is the "China marketing attempt" factor which is kind of really fucked up but hey, at least there's quality and clear passion behind the thing's animation. It's still so fucking uncanny looking at Amazon hazbin compared to the pilot in how fucking stiff and floaty it is. You'd expect it'd be the opposite, because the lego show is literal fucking LEGO PEOPLE, but no, no the lego men move infinitely more dynamic than the pointy spiky "dynamic" characters with noodle arms.

Seriously, look at this compilation that recently showed up for me where it's just scenes of other characters talking with the very blatantly evil demon masquerading as "The Mayor" and compare it to any fucking character dialogue segment from hazbin.
EDIT: Wow, content blocked, even with invidious? Damn amazon. EDITX2: no it's just the US address that's blocking everything.

You gave more thought to the source material than any of the writers.

She's not really unique this way. I mean Dante and Milton both made Satan a lot cooler than their shitty God.
Pardon? Have you actually read the Divine Comedy or Paradise Lost? Satan is in no way "cool" in those works. Sure in Paradise Lost he is charismatic but the more the story unfolds the more he sounds like a deluded crack head that start believing his own lies, claiming he totally wanted to be in Hell, because he's awesome.

  • Lucifer let the extermination happen because he didn't believe sinners were worth saving.
  • Adam clearly wanted to exterminate the hotel first, and then continue to rest of hell. When Adam was killed the attack was called off.
  • Seeing Alastor get too cocky and get his ass handed to him was very satisfying, the first time he fought someone who is not several power levels below him he folded very easily. This is the first acutal character developement for Alastor in the show so far.
  • The biggest writing sin about Adam was him starting a monologue at the end instead of just blasting them all with that same beam he zapped Pentius and his airship.
Overall, I think most characters are clearly defined and don't have too much going in the way of plot holes. Except Charlie, who along with Vaggie are the absolute worst characters in the show.

You're entirely right. Rage-"WTF-ing" isn't a plot hole, and I confused them with those four points you posted, thank you.

Except Charlie who could have skewered Adam all along, but throws glitter and says sorry and acts worse than Piper in red is the new black.

I read it and Purgatorio and Paradiso, and I can remember about nothing about the last two. They were a struggle to read and completely uninteresting.

Milton's Satan was amazing.

The thing with the Divine Comedy is that the Inferno is more memorable because of how Dante wrote God punishing these people. Satan in the Inferno is a mindless monster whose mostly encased in the ice.

Note that while we as faggots here on the Kiwi Farms may be disappointed by HH, it's apparently pretty financially successful.
I'm confused, its a streaming exclusive that you get by already being subscribed to prime, how is it financially sucesful? I thought the success of those things was measured by a combination of initial viewcount and staying power.

Yeah the show definitely feels like it was made for young teens who have brainrot from Tim Burton, Invader Zim, and Billy & Mandy whose idea of maturity is South Park.
Isn't it crazy how almost refreshing that is when it comes to modern western animation?
As cringe as the show can be it's almost half the appeal, good or bad it just has this spark to it that most other shit lacks right now.
The over-designed characters used to be one of my biggest gripes with the show and now I've come to appreciate it (for the most park the furry wolf overlord stands out in the worst kind of way).

I hate bad writing, period. I hate bad writing being put up and published and produced as basically all media just gets worse and worse and worse. I hate bad writing that's clearly not just a rough draft, but a lazy one, being a final script. I'm sick of shit getting worse and I'm sick of pablum being spooned out.

It was probably stupid to have any hope that a fujo autist would do anything but the laziest imaginable vehicle for torture porn terrible jokes and and gay uwus but at least we can be bitter faggots together on the farms, lol.

Yeah this show really wouldn't be that out of place in the 2000s, kind of feels like a time capsule of that period of hot topic edginess.

She should have read some C.S. Lewis.
I doubt Viv can read anything theology-related without being mindblown.

This is probably why a lot of people didn't get into it. I personally felt like it had Steven Universe vibes and the fanbase that it entails.

The problem I think is HH is trying to bring back the old 2000s era of animation without realizing what made said animations good.

Joe, the original Egg minion guy voice actor who who had drama a few years back about this fucking thing, uploaded a video where the Egg tells people to go to church and stop watching Hazbin.
Broken clocks are right twice a day.

Broken clocks are right twice a day.
Considering the shit with Hazbin combined with his breakup with his GF seems to be what got him in the state he is now, I think it's kind of cosmically relevant he voiced the Hazbin Eggs since he kinda "cracked" a bit after those events.

It's actually very well-liked overall. IMDb score is 7.7 (even masterpieces like Citizen Kane or Dr. Strangelove only get a user score of mid-8s on IMDb), while on Metacritic, the user score of 7.2 exceeds the critic score of 69.

Overall, there appears to be a significant generational gap between viewers who like it and ones who don't, with the younger, more retarded set favoring it more, in spite of their misgivings about the "problematic" content. Professional critics are confused by the tone, wondering whether it's really for adults or not, complaining that it's written like a kids' show with swearing and sex, et cetera.

If the second season is even just a teeny bit stronger than this one, there's a reasonable chance Amazon will buy a third and fourth season.
