So I heard about Wil Wheaten whining on social media, but didn't click on the thread until now, because I knew it would upset me.

Holy shit it's even worse than I thought. What the fuck is wrong with that guy? Elmo is, like, a puppet. He's nothing but an ageless pop culture figure at this point, especially since he isn't even on sesame street here; he's on some other show, and is currently putting whatever his IP owners think will be profitable in the spotlight.

And Wil Fucking Wheaton ... did ... that? And thought it was going to be ... moving? What?

What an asshole. What a stupid, self-centered, tone deaf asshole.

Full Disclosure: All the time, when I was growing up, annoying kids would be around irritating everyone, but you weren't allowed to harm them. They'd act like twerps all the time. It was out of control, always in a whiny mood. I'm an ageless kiwi and my heart is pounding right now, recalling how badly I wanted to beat them up the way the way Larry David beat up Elmo.

If it were that simple, it would make sense. There's an episode of a game show, I want to say Weakest Link? Back in 2001 that had a bunch of ST cast members as guest stars for charity. It's been scrubbed from youtube but if you can find it, he made a complete ass of himself and pissed off everyone else on the show most notably this incident:

If he's willing to be an insufferable faggot when he was almost 30 pissing off everyone involved with ST during a damn charity event, is it any wonder no one ever wanted anything to do with him after TNG?

In the wake of Elmogate, I think it's important to remember the time /u/wil visited /r/Drama and got reamed out by a troll mod,/u/MasterLawlz. It goes like this, someone made a lego figure that made fun of Wesley Crusher. This made Wil Wheaton so upset that he wrote a huge blogpost crying about it. It's really long and dumb, and the definition of feeding the trolls. This gets posted to /r/Drama (RIP) by MasterLawlz, someone who frequently abused users by pinning his movie reviews and opinions on Ben 10 to the subreddit. /u/wil is pinged and gets very upset that people aren't impressed with his crybaby blog, and can't help but try to debate a bunch of trolls in a subreddit for trolls. However, our hero, /u/MasterLawlz has a brief moment of being serious, mocking /u/wil's hypocrisy

Wil Wheaton is the biggest fucking pussy on this planet. If Jim Henson were still with us he would have laughed his ass off seeing an old jew slapfight with Elmo.
And fuck Elmo, all true autists know that Elmo marked the downfall of Sesame Street as Elmomania resulted in the show targeting toddlers over 5 year olds.

It goes to show that Wesley is tone-deaf of the entire point of the Muppets and just assume that it's all for children, something like Sesame Street and such.

The Muppets has always been about over-the-top comical violence and more adult-themed stuff. I doubt he's ever discovered Wilkins Coffee ads, or even watched the show Dinosaurs

No doubt they're put off by his inability to grow the fuck up. But objectively he was only a key cast member for the first, and by all accounts worst, season, just like Denise Crosby. Is she constantly trying to insert herself into the fandom? I really don't know because she doesn't invade every other sci-fi/nerd adjacent space like Wil.

What's also really gross is that he's made Gates McFadden and Jonathan Frakes his proxy parents. Imagine a 50 year old ex-coworker still clinging to you as a son as he constantly cries about being mistreated by his real parents. It's emotionally manipulative and they really should give him a good "shut up Wil!." Remember when Beverly slapped Wesley? Do that again except for real.

Denise Crosby makes appearances at conventions every now and then, and she did come back as a romulan later on in the series, but it's never been anything like Wheaton constantly trying to make it all about himself. I think the biggest difference is that Crosby had a career prior to ST, and still had a career afterward that had absolutely nothing to do with ST. Wheaton on the other hand has only had a career because of ST. In a weird way he was basically the proto version of something like the weirdos from Channel Awesome who grew up doing dumb shit during their formative years(yes I'm pushing this into people's early 20's as that's when someone generally starts to find out what being an adult is actually like), and most of the ones who had an audience a decade ago now have no idea how to actually function as adults and still cling to the bullshit(lupa, marzgurl, filmbrain, etc.) and wound up as emotionally stunted weirdo adults because of it.

And yes, I imagine it would be incredibly weird for Frakes and McFadden that this man child has publicly latched onto them for decades now.

She was in the late 90's documentary Trekkies, does cons, and has done some fan films. Denise has a career outside of Trek it's nothing amazing, but she's worked steady on projects and hasn't been larping off her Trek Fame. When she does cons and fan films it comes off as someone who enjoyed her time with the franchise and appreciates the fans. She's not bitter and has even thanked Gene Roddenberry for letting out of her contract back in the day. I mean she arguably got her 2nd best known role in Pet Semetary thanks to that.

Then there's Wil who seems to honestly hate the franchise and fans but puts on a fake smile to leech off them both as it's the only thing he has achieved in life. Imagine the highlight of your life is being the worst of something.

It's good to be empathetic, and yes, it's not impossible that a child could catch this moment and come away with a bad memory, but Wheaton's words in the context of his history betray what this really is, which is an outburst of narcissistic projection. It upset me. It relates to me. It reminds me of my story. Elmo is a symbol of hope because he helps people (me) cope with current day issues that bother me. Larry David is objectively an asshole because he did something that bothered me. That's why everyone's experiencing schadenfreude over this, he's failed to read the room and has attempted to insert his very important self into this completely banal event to tell everyone that the victim is me and you should think about me.

Same thing he did with Dave Chappell when he condemned him as a bigot while apologizing for his own 'homophobia'. He might be completely sincere about what he thinks, but that's not the motive driving these tardouts. Look at me. Absolve me. The better person is me. Everyone needs to know this about me - and that is the thought process of a preening faggot.
