Remember how Onimai infamously got trashed by Nick, Caitlin, (((Rebecca))), and Eisenbeis on the preview guide because muh loli, but then the episode reviews came from Kim who loved it, it got a positive TWIA, and Farris and Steve went on to include it in their top 5 anime of the year? It'd be funny if a similar 180 ends up happening with MahoAko. Not that I expect it to happen: the manga was already previously given bad reviews by Jean-Karlo, Farris, and AJ on one of those manga guides.

Apparently they actually recently did a magical girl TWIA which brings up MahoAko. I am still staying off ANN so I didn't read it for myself but rather saw someone tweeting about it with some gripes:

I shouldn'tve looked at ANN after staying off for so long, yet I did anyways. There it is, Farris is doing the episode reviews for the show.

ANN, topical as usual, has decided to step into the localization/AI conversation about 2 weeks late. What do they provide? Nothing of any real importance just more apologetics, vitriol and projection. Apparently, if you want translations as close to original Japanese as possible then you're just a chud bigot.


The talkback thread is basically a circlejerk as expected but they're getting hammered in the Twitter thread.

Remember when Nick and James were bitching about peasants on Crunchyroll daring to not hate isekai shows? I do because I was the one posting those tweets here when they happened.

I read Farris's first episode review covering episodes 1-3, and wasn't sure what to make of it.

I saw someone on the preview guide forum thread made a long post basically saying potentially good stories shouldn't be dismissed simply because their premise isn't the most original or that bad adaptations shouldn't be a reason to dismiss good source material (they were pointing to Villainess Lv99 as an example), ATastySub gave them a reply basically missing the point and also including a dash of "I don't like this show therefore it's objectively bad". I couldn't screencap because the guy's post was longer than my screen.

Oh, you want to hear about you-know-who? She wrote a full series review of Guard Dog on ANN (not surprising, she teased she'd be doing that and some other shows from last season) which goes down the exact path you'd expect. I read this AniFem review from her and it sure is a greatest hits pack: judging the entire show over episode 1 (she repeatedly refers to the entire show, not just this premiere), handwringing about slavery, taking issue with the mostly-female cast

Remember Corey Maddox, the guy who used student loans to start his own anime company before getting arrested for violating parole as a sex offender? He just made a surprise appearance on ANN forums, to defend himself when someone took a jab at his use of student loans. Andy calls him out but Corey just shuts him down before it can get good, later Theron locks the thread.

Sevakis is such prick, I don't understand why people lick his boots, he doesn't give two shits about any of crap discotek pushes, yet they behave as if he's the second coming just because he works for a company that releases old japanese cartoons.
I like the old stuff too, and I'm happy to get it when it comes over, but jesus christ, they take it to another level...
