It's the Green Lantern Theory of Politics taken to it's logical extreme. The wealthy and powerful could solve all of the world's problems (poverty, pollution, crime, injustice, etc.) if they wanted to; the fact that they have not yet done so is proof that they do not want said problems to be solved, therefore it is their fault that the problems of society continue.
I still think the Christian guys that ran Kony2012 were gay and they tried using the whole child soldiers thing in Uganda to launch careers in show-biz. Their High School Musical parody was one of the most awkward videos I've ever seen.

I mean they read (well maybe not read in the traditional sense, more like their eyes glossed over words) a wikipedia article about the issue and now they are experts in the subject. It's usually easier for them to turn everything into a Marvel or Harry Potter idiom for their fellow midwits to understand.
