So what makes these people do it? Is the urge to virtue signal and not question the groupthink really that strong? What other atrocities could we get them to commit?
As you say, they do know what they've done. And they consistently chose to keep doubling down affirming and enabling. It's not like a single "oops" moment. So how are they going to keep justifying it to themselves/others?

I think there's a bunch of very different motivations for different parents doing this. A few:

• True believers in the troon cult, idk how many of these there are because all of the other kinds will say they are this, but there must be some, surely
• Virtue signalling for progressive updoots, like you say.
• Munchausen's by proxy.
• The suicide myths and pushing from the therapists and surgeons and they genuinely believe that it's the lesser harm (believing the kid will die otherwise, or they will get criminalised for refusing and their kids taken away). Like parents of kids who really are sick who consent to surgeries for them to save their lives even if it's a reduced quality of life, it's better than the alternative.
• Homophobia, trying to "fix" a gay son by turning him into a straight girl, or a lesbian daughter into a straight boy. Kai Shappley's mum is one of these (though he was just a gentle kid who liked playing with "girl" toys, he didn't have a sexuality yet but she feared he would be gay someday), as is Jackie Green's dad (similar story) and a lot of Tavistock parents to the point where it was raised as a serious safeguarding concern. Basically a progressive sort of conversion therapy.
• Narcissists, usually the mothers, getting jealous of their children growing up and becoming more independent, and they want to keep them a baby forever (similar to MBP). Or if it's a girl, they see her growing up into a young woman just as they themselves are hitting the wall, so they want to get them disfigured or at least looking like a man rather than a woman so that they're no longer "competition".
• A few cases of paedophile dads who were molesting the kids and wanted them on puberty blockers because they only fancied prepubescent children.

It's male fat distribution that gives his crotch the extra uncanny valley (heh) look. Male hip, male thigh, male belly and fupa that would effectively hide his peen if he still had one. Except he's wearing extremely unflattering women's panties (they're not rolled up, the sides are supposed to be lacey strings as is a common design with women's underwear) in a color he should absolutely never ever wear, and it looks exactly like any old fat perv wearing his wife's panties.

I am so, so sorry for this kid. He should be in his physical prime and enjoying a strong male body instead of granny tits on the misshapen morbidly obese body of a person who lived their life and stopped giving any fucks at around 60 or so.

The examples I provided are speculative, hence the "persistent rumor" caveat.

The height preservation/increase of puberty blockers only applies if there's not a pre-existing condition that stunts height, and there technically wasn't in Gary Coleman's case; but he suffered a lack of growth not due to the kidney disease itself, but the corticosteroids he was forced to take to prevent rejection of the donated kidney(s). So yes, hormones actually did keep him small chubby and cute. Puberty blockers would not have made him taller, but he was literally still playing 10-year-olds at 17... and being pretty damn convincing. With the risk of sounding like @all4mom2, I'm not convinced he wasn't given something else to stop virilization. I certainly wouldn't put it past his parents, considering they squandered all the money he made and pretty much left the poor guy destitute and penniless once he became of age.

kim petras also lost a bunch of weight recently, also presumably due to using ozempic. They were both raised with the message that it is morally correct to demand doctors solve your psychological problems with risky drugs, and it would follow that doctors are also morally required to solve any side effects with more drugs. This is not a biologically sustainable way to treat your body, something terrible always happens.
