Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

It would be a real shame if backers charged back if he didn’t qualify and complained.
Sure, but there's a big part of me that thinks anybody giving money to Ethan gets what they deserve.

I can't be bothered to act indignant over any of this shit anymore. I just laugh.

This...

...is a fucking stupid thing to make a definitive statement about. He can't promise that. Running qualification laps doesn't count as racing.

If we want to get technical. All it says is your name will be on the car. It says nothing about the car actually being in a race. It will be funny if it becomes a case of paying $500 to have your name written on the Talladega car in Sharpie or something and never leaves the garage.

Also, there is maybe this now:
Comment from yesterday's IGG update.

And I guess this at least confirms where the money is going. Been sort of confirmed before, but never in the actual crowdfund (outside of the wrap and sort of in yesterday's IGG update):
Of course, if they have to buy a new car, that might eat into his profit.

Coomalot is confident about Talladega because he's very, very likely to be guaranteed a provisional spot using owner points. ARCA rules state the first 3 races of the year, the provisional owner spots are determined by the previous years owner points. Coomalot's team is owned by Alex Clubb who finished 12th in owner points last year. Talladega is the 3rd race of the season.
You might ask why he didn't qualify for Daytona with owner points and the answer is Daytona gets more people attempting to qualify. Top team owners often bring in a 2nd tier driver and field an additional car and use their owner point standings to qualify. Also at Daytona, unlike other races, the qualifying is done in groups which causes more unusual results. This can lead to top teams who normally wouldn't have to rely on owner points and may do well on race day, having to use owner points to qualify.
For the Daytona race, 6 provisional starting positions were given based upon owner points and past champions and not based upon time. I beleive the amount of provisional spots granted usually varies from race to race and depends on how many teams are attempting to qualify and how large of a field the track can support.

TLDR to sum it back up, it is very likely he can get a guaranteed spot, but Coomalot and anyone connected to the Balldo have proven they can fuck anything up, so...

If someone had the time and inclination, surely one could make a serious case to Indiegogo that this campaign is, in principle, highly suspect - at best completely misguided; at worst a flat-out fraud.

This point that backers of the upper tier will get their name on a racing car implies ‘competitive’ at the main race event - would the onus be on Frog to make clear the car will only feature in the race proper if qualifying is successful, or is responsibility on the customer to assess the risk of their purchase beforehand?

I can’t pull up the page right now, but memory serves that the pitch was very much ‘this car could be in a competitive race - here’s your chance to make it happen’.

You know what, perhaps Frog needs a proper fucking legal beatdown to restore some humility to the bloated dickhead.

Bro, read it again.

It clearly says that "Your name will be added to the CYBERFROG Race Car design that will race at TALLADEGA!" (emphasis mine).

I don't know any way to interpret that other than an affirmative statement that the car WILL be in the race. Specifically the race at Talladega.

And maybe it will be, but it strikes me as an extremely optimistic statement.

So can he qualify for Talladega using owner points even if he finishes the absolute dead last in terms of qualifying time again? Like how bad of a fuckup can owner points undo?

That's the pertinent question here, I think.

I mean, if he can, that would be a load off FROG, for sure. Then he can legit claim the car did race. No matter how bad it does.

I'm still gonna laugh if he gets in the race but finishes dead last, or near the bottom, though. If you think about it, that would be the most amusing and appropriate outcome for any CG branded car in any race.

Maybe LATE RACE CARS will become a meme.

My bad, was going by this and there being no mention of it in the story/updates. Forgot to click the Add Your Name item for some reason.

I suppose it's moot since it sounds like it's almost guaranteed he will be racing at this point. But part of me wonders what wiggle room there might be if he ends up being unable to race for some reason.

Coomalot might be the biggest grifter yet. Rackets looked liked an AIDS patient by the time he was done wih him, I don't think Ethan will survive this. Mad lad Coomalot will take him out before all the burgers do.
Those tomahawk steaks and pies have a commanding lead right now, but Camelot is catching up at lightning speed. Saying that, I don't think this will be Frog's undoing. Frog's fans are pretty retarded and will continue to eat their ramen noodles while giving their money so Frog can buy tomahawk steaks and pies spend money to "help a 'friend'/the community". Also, Frog isn't a spouting off at the mouth alcoholic like baldo.

Oh, I don't think he'll ruin him financially, I'm talking heart attack while waiting for race results. Fingers crossed! 🤞

It will be at talladega...in the garage because he didn't qualify. Just like Mike Wazowski was on the cover of a magazine

I believe so yes but it seems to me that renting a seat in a car that's guaranteed to qualify would cost a lot more than one that had to work to get in. That also means the equipment can be even shittier if qualifying is irrelevant. It's also important to note that qualifying for Daytona's ARCA race was a unique format where they race in groups (riskier). Qualifying for Daytona and the other races is one car on the track at a time for a few laps and they record the fastest. That is a little easier if you have decent equipment.

I think the only way this sinks him is if the car doesn't make the race for whatever reason. I think he'd be obligated to refund at that point. If Coom starts the actual Talledega race and even wrecks on the first lap I think EVS is off the hook.

I agree.

Mind you, I still think this is one of stupidest things ever, and I will laugh at anybody contributing to this thing, but I agree Ethan will technically meet his backer obligations if Coomalot at least starts at Talladega. A DNF would be "fine." But not a DNQ or DNS.

Just for one moment, I’d like to discuss with my learned friends on this thread about one of, if not THE worst CG campaign wrt late fulfilment - Dan Fraga’s Black Flag: Pineapple Perception.

IMG_7259.jpeg

This campaign closed out on 25 June 2020 before going in demand. The ETA for shipment was September 2021. That’s at least 870 days late. Backers have been waiting for this comic for 1,332 days since it closed out; a day one backer who pumped their readies into this campaign on 25 April 2020 will have endured a 1,393 day wait on their investment, with nothing but a recent vague update that it will ‘definitely’ ship in 2024.

No wonder this scumbag has been ducking out of almost all streaming for the last 18months.

Maybe the plan is to release it on the 30th anniversary?

Funny enough, he released an update about 2 weeks ago. Says this year, but probably high hopes on his part.

Owner Points Stuff

It was brought to my attention that in more recent times, owners aren't able to so easily swap points among their cars. You used to be able to trade/sell/swap points during the season. Now it is restricted to only the off-season. It's possible that Alex Clubb Racing only is able to use owner points for their primary car number 03 and not the 86 car. If that is the case then I don't understand why Coomalot is guaranteeing anything.

I just want to see Coomalot in the race because I find it much funnier for him to wreck early like he did with the 2 Rekieta sponsored cars that he wrecked in 1 weekend.

So can he qualify for Talladega using owner points even if he finishes the absolute dead last in terms of qualifying time again? Like how bad of a fuckup can owner points undo?

Sometimes they qualify without any official attempt such as if the car was damaged in practice. The rules give a vague statement about provisional cars having to be competitive and "maintain minimum race time."

All these provisional rules are first and foremost made to make sure that the top teams who spend the most and have the most fan name recognition don't have a bad weekend and not get to race at all. Not too long ago, it wasn't unusual to see 1 or 2 more provisional spots added at the last minute if the weather or other circumstances made it so one of the preferred teams would have been kept out.

Wait, Elasi died? When did this happen?

For whatever it's worth, "Helmut" seems like a smart guy. Whoever he is.

Interesting. So we're right back to where we started then.

Neither do I! That's my point.

He's slow. He even admits he was so slow as to be a hazard.

I guess we'll see how he does next week. Maybe his engine excuse will hold water. Maybe not. Phoenix is a short track though. I dunno how much of it will translate to how he'd do at Talladega.
