This is going to be a bit of -source: "me, trust me bro" so take what I tell you with that in consideration. I know quite some people in Ukraine personally, on a first name basis. The situation of COVID, flu and actual tuberculosis in Kharkiv (yes it is still a fucking thing in Ukraine) is fucked up. Like really fucked up. I know young people who are fucked up and were young and healthy. A soldier I knew tangentially died from Corona-chan's kiss, and he was in his 40's (and smoked)
My point is that, while yes, they could totally have shanked him and called it a day, a dead person has no value, and in jail without internet he was no threat as a propagandist. The chances that he caught some pulmonary virus, probably COVID and died due to being a chronic smoker, is what's most likely. But unless there was an autopsy, I guess we'll never know.
