Some stuff I have heard about him, but much of it can't be confirmed because he's so fucking old and there's no archives, but he's a common figure if you're digging up ancient history:
  • Apparently was arranging room parties in the early 70s. Had a habit of using them to filter out the straight furries to invite gay furries to orgies. These were done by recruiting from scifi cons.
  • Started one of the first BBS for furries.
  • Started early furry cons in the 80s.
  • Was involved in a lot of the early furry zines.
  • Pushed back hard against the burned furries, encouraging the degeneracy that started the slippery slope.
  • Always been super gay, but he was apparently put off by how overt the fandom was getting by the 10s.
  • The only reference to him and pedophilia I ever saw was him banning someone from a party for being a pedo. He otherwise didn't speak out against it, though the theory is it was not to spread the idea of furries being pedos, since he got enough of those accusations for being gay.
This shit is just stuff I remember seeing on old ancient archives, BBS stuff, and IRC retellings and hearsay. Can't really be sure what is and isn't true. Just what I "know" to provide context. Ultimately he didn't seem to do anything awful, so yiff in peace furfag.

Huh. Condolences I guess. My knowledge of the Fandom is largely 20+ years out of date and even then he's not a name that was anything other than "one of the west coast gay guys in the late 80s/early 90s who started stuff". I can't fathom he got more relevant in the in between.

Maybe he was still hanging around some local circles but furries are a real skewed young Fandom and they mostly hate "greymuzzles" which used to be anyone over 35. You're too old to be a twink/thot so unless you're super duper important you arent welcome anymore. And by important i mean in the idiotic fame way. Again that was true ages ago and it only appears to be worse now.

Which is all to say, I dont think the degeneracy and fucked up ness of the modern Fandom can be laid on his grave. He grew up in an era where bad shit really did happen sometimes to gay men, and the fact a message of tolerance would become the insanity it did I can't really fault him for not predicting.

RIP i guess. The photo of him not yet dead with i assume his partner is just sad to me, theres nothing else here really to say. (For the person above who assumed it was a corpse, timestamps twitter reads bottom to top not top to bottom.)

This is exactly what I'm talking about when I make the distinction between the old crop of furries vs the new. Look at all this, alleged work, can anyone imagine a con getting started today the same way that a con was started in the 80s? This is my criticism of the modern age in general, we have things way too easy. It is why I'm certain that legacy wealth will dissolve as the young inherit it. Leg work builds discipline, it builds the ability to compromise, it builds character. I was 22 when I got my smartphone and laptop because my mother refused to buy it. In fact she is still using a flip phone and now rubbing it in my face as I debate switching to a flip phone as well. I don't think companies should have a requirement for smartphones and a use of a proprietary app for your phone, one that can just as equally track you outside of work. I'm way off topic after that bowl, but still, y'all get the point.

You cannot fool me. I have seen the ancient zines and I can tell you it was always associated with sex no matter how "vanilla" that sex might be, even if I give him the benefit of the doubt and his intentions were completely innocent by making cons a thing. The damage that has been done has spiraled so far out of control that the only way to fix it is to literally pull a Flashgitz.
