A 17-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Robert Wayne Lee II, known online as “Boopac Shakur.”
The boy, who was 16 at the time of the shooting and whose name Oakland County prosecutors did not release, is charged as a juvenile. But if he is convicted, the judge will have the option to sentence him as an adult, a juvenile or in a blended sentence of both.
He was charged Thursday with homicide, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm in connection with Lee's Sept. 29 murder in Pontiac.

The boy and his 18-year-old friend were allegedly sitting inside the Universal Coney Island in Pontiac when Lee approached them around 10:30 p.m. Sept. 29, prosecutors said in a Friday release. Security footage showed Lee approaching the 18-year-old and then "engaging him in a physical altercation."
"At the same time, the defendant can be seen pulling out a semi-automatic firearm from his waistband," according to a press release from the Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald's office. "The defendant then aims directly at the victim and fires multiple rounds, striking the victim."
The two teens fled the restaurant, leaving Lee there. Police were called and found Lee shot at the restaurant. He later died at a hospital.
Prosecutors noted there was no evidence that the shooting was related to any sting operation by Lee, something that police had initially said may have been a factor in Lee's death but later walked back. Lee was known online as "Boopac Shakur," where he posed as teenage girls to set up meetings with adult men under the false pretext of meeting for sex in hopes of catching pedophiles.
“This is a tragic incident,” McDonald said in a statement. “A physical altercation turned deadly almost instantly because this individual chose to illegally carry a concealed, deadly weapon, and then to use it. The vast majority of gun violence deaths, including this one, are preventable.”
The teen has been in custody on other charges since the shooting. He is currently standing trial on those other charges, which stem from a non-fatal shooting Sept. 20 outside a Pontiac supermarket. He allegedly started shooting at a man during a fight between two men in the parking lot of the supermarket.
