Editor's Note: The following article has been updated to reflect the ongoing investigation into Nex Benedict's death.

The death of a nonbinary teenager from Owasso, Okla., following a physical altercation in a high school bathroom earlier this month was "not a result of trauma," police announced, citing information from the medical examiner.

Meanwhile, the family of Nex Benedict believes their death stemmed from bullying.

"While the investigation continues into the altercation, preliminary information from the medical examiner’s office is that a complete autopsy was performed and indicated that the decedent did not die as a result of trauma," Owasso police said in a Wednesday update. "At this time, any further comments on the cause of death are currently pending until toxicology results and other ancillary testing results are received. The official autopsy report will be available at a later date."

The 16-year-old sophomore has been identified on a GoFundMe campaign created by family as Nex Benedict, who uses they/them pronouns.

Police said in a statement initially shared on Tuesday that officers were called to a local hospital on Feb. 7 around 3:30 p.m. regarding a report of a student who had been involved in a physical altercation at Owasso High School earlier that day. The student, now confirmed to have been Nex, was pronounced dead at the hospital the next day.

Following the Wednesday update, Nex's family shared a statement through their lawyer to News on 6 in which they claim the teenager was attacked by a group of other students.

"On February 7th, 2024, the Benedict Family sent their child, Nex Benedict, to Owasso High School, trusting, like any parent or family member should be able to, that it was a safe environment for their loved one. Millions of parents across America make the same decision each and every morning. While at Owasso High School, Nex was attacked and assaulted in a bathroom by a group of other students," the statement reads, in part.

"The Benedicts know all too well the devastating effects of bullying and school violence, and pray for meaningful change wherein bullying is taken seriously and no family has to deal with another preventable tragedy," the statement adds, in part, per the outlet.

The family urged officials involved in the case to conduct a fair investigation. The family is also investigating the case themselves.

"Notwithstanding, the family is independently interviewing witnesses and collecting all available evidence," the family said, per News on 6. "The Benedict Family calls on all school, local, state and national officials to join forces to determine why this happened, to hold those responsible to account and to ensure it never happens again."

"The family graciously accepts and appreciates the outpouring of support, thoughts and prayers from across the nation for the loss of their child. In the coming weeks and months they request that their privacy be respected and that they be allowed to grieve and deal with their new reality---a life without Nex," the family added.

Police previously said detectives were interviewing school staff and students regarding the incident and will turn over the investigation to the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether criminal charges should be filed.

In a statement shared on Tuesday, Owasso Public Schools gave background information on the incident following what they said has been an increase in “speculation and misinformation surrounding the case.”

School officials said that students were in the bathroom for “less than two minutes” before the altercation was broken up by other students who were in the restroom at the time, as well as a staff member who was supervising outside of the bathroom, according to the school's statement.

Once the altercation was broken up, all involved students walked to the assistant principal’s office and nurse’s office, school officials said. District administrators then took statements from the students present in the restroom and contacted their parents/guardians. According to school officials, each of the involved students were assessed by a nurse, and it was recommended to one parent that their student visit a medical facility for further examination.

“We understand that for many, additional questions remain, however these are the facts that we are able to communicate at this juncture,” school officials said. “We will continue to cooperate fully with the Owasso Police Department’s investigation.”

According to their obituary, Nex loved watching The Walking Dead, drawing, reading, and playing Ark and Minecraft. They also loved “nature and caring for cats, particularly [their] cat, Zeus.”

In a Tuesday update on the GoFundMe page, Nex's mother Sue Benedict apologized for having previously misgendered Nex in the fundraiser’s description.

“I lost my child, the headstone will have [the] correct name of their choice," the update reads. "The rest of [the] monies will go to other children dealing with the right to be who they feel they are, in Nex Benedict’s name. God bless.”

Nex's death comes amid a climate of legislation, across the country and in Oklahoma, targeting transgender and nonbinary people. A bill was signed into state law last year requiring public school students to use bathrooms and changing rooms that matched their sex given at birth, particularly male or female, according to a statement from the Oklahoma Senate.

Local organizations Oklahomans for Equality and Trans Advocacy Coalition of Oklahoma shared the following statement on Facebook regarding Nex’s death.

“Our hearts are broken for the Oklahoma 2SLGBTQIA+ community and for the family, friends, and loved ones of Nex Benedict,” the statement read. “While we are still learning all of the facts surrounding the death of the 16-year-old Owasso student, we are certain that every student has the right to a safe learning environment, free from deadnaming, misgendering, outing, and violence, as well as appropriate medical care.”

“The persistent, vitriolic legislation and rhetoric being championed by our state leaders is breeding animosity, inciting violence, and harming the queer community, especially our youth. As we grieve and acknowledge this loss, we are reminded of the work yet to be done because our lives depend on it. Nex Benedict and the countless 2SLGBTQIA+ teens like them deserve better from our state and medical facilities. They deserve the chance to fully be themselves. They deserve to grow up. Rest in power, Nex,” the statement concluded.

A candlelight vigil is planned for Feb. 25 at 6:30 pm at Redbud Festival Park in Owasso to honor Nex, per Oklahomans for Equality.

I love how "mom" is so gobsmacked and disbelieving that her daughter could be held legally responsible for starting the fight "even though she didn't use her hands." As the cop pointed out, those other girls had no way of knowing what was in the water bottle, it could've been urine, it could've been paint, etc. The utter entitlement of these garbage humans. Cop did a great job, and I hope he doesn't face any backlash for the way he handled the interview.
It wasn't too long ago that people gleefully spread the idea of tossing milkshakes at politicians they didn't like.

So, um, what if a bunch of people started doing that, and someone decided to take a fast-food branded cup, fill it with concrete and toss it? Or what if it contains something toxic, like fluid with someone's disease backwash or other tainted bodily fluids?

That's why I have a problem with the idea that "it's just water". She didn't deserve to die for it, even if that had anything to do with it, but dumping water on someone with malicious intent is considered assault for a reason. I'm going with the theory is that she was white trash and did what white trash does.

I think the police better look into the mother cuz something ain't right in that household.
I'm a little blurry on the facts at this point, but Chris Rock said if you call your grandmother "mom" and your mom "Pam", you're going to jail. I suspect there's some variant of this going on here.

The whole thing was sus for me at the beginning of course, as it should have been to any rational person. Every time outrage bait pops up in the news, it always lacks some amount of detail. There are just enough "facts" let out to allow people's biases to fill in the blanks. So when someone says "look, it finally happened, conservatives, killed a poor, sweet, innocent trans kid that dindu nuffin."

Funny that kid is in flyover country. You know, that swath in the middle of the country filled with bile-filled neanderthals that need to be educated to be correct. As if somehow, even if a trans kid somehow sprung up, the trans kid is educated and erudite and completely immune to becoming trash, or conservative.

It's sickening how troon activists like Erin Reed have succeeded in poisoning the narrative. They made it sound like Nex was a poor widdle troon that was bullied all the time, then randomly jumped after LoTT encouraged anti-troon behavior, then Nex was left beaten and bloody, and then later died at the hospital due to inaction from the police, school, and hospital. Even with these new police body cam videos, people are still saying how Nex was beaten and suffered massive head trauma, and that throwing water on someone isn't a good excuse to be "beaten" like she was.

I think more attention should be to the fact that Nex was not only the one who started the fight, she also admitted to throwing one of the girls into the toilet paper dispenser, or the fact that she herself admits she didn't even know these girls. She also never once mentioned that she was being bullied for being a troon in that interview. This was in no way a transphobic beat down where Nex is a helpless victim. This was a dumb middle school spat that should have never should have went public the way it has.

Another thing I don't see people talking more about is Nex's text to family after the incident. Notice how she said "The school is probably going to get sued". I doubt she came up with that on her own, that sounds like something the mother told her. I'm sure her mother was seeing dollar signs and thinking about how they could make money off of suing for transphobia. Of course that dream was dashed when the police politely informed Nex and her mother that filing a complaint not only wouldn't work, but Nex could also get in trouble since she admitted to starting the fight.

I thought the people suggesting the mom accidentally killed Nex sounded crazy, but now after seeing the videos and seeing how much the mom keeps trying to play victim, I'm not so sure... maybe after the police informed her that she had no case against the school, she was dumb enough to try something to make Nex seem worse than she was for a pain and suffering pay out? Even if she didn't do anything that lead to Nex's death, she's still hamming it up and lying about the situation now.

She was in the bathroom with them for like twenty seconds without staff being there and that includes the time to hear them laughing, and throw the water at them. And in the hospital she's showing absolutely no signs of even mild physical trauma

None of this shit adds up and I can't wait to find out what's actually happened

Why are you still calling her Dex? Her name is Dagny. Don't play their stupid games.
Its a child, and clearly one that has had some issues. In this case I think using whatever nickname she wanted is fine. If she were an adult then she should know better and not be indulged imo. Plus, Dex is easier to type and read.

First thing that jumps out to me is why is this girl familiar with this cop? Priors? She get caught with a vape and it was the same officer?
Yeah in the interview she kept saying she was in ISC if I remember? I took that as some sort of in school suspension. But I really dont know. I wonder what thats all about though. When I was in HS it was abreviated ISS.

Question: This is serious.

If I... poured water on a NIGGER and said the word, NIGGER, and was actually beaten within an inch of my life... what do you suppose the response from troons, SJW's, and white race traitor females?

Think they'd stand up and say that I didn't DESERVE to be beaten to death for pouring a little WATER and saying a harmless little word--I never laid a FINGER on them!

Has anyone tried asking these shitheads stuff like this? Has anyone tried extracting a real answer for this?

Their cognitive dissonance would never allow them to answer.

It goes like this:
-That is different. The fact that you don't understand that it's different means that you are catastrophically stupid.
>Okay, how is it different, can you explain it to me using the English language to arrange words into sentences that make the differences clear?
-It's not my job to educate you. Stop JAQing off. You are sealioning me.
>Okay, so you can't explain it?

You're a Nazi and deserve it, would be the rationale.

Lads I think I know what's done it and why we're waiting for a toxicology. She mentions a pain shot intramuscular in the glutes. I'm guessing some moron RN decided to give her ketorolac instead of just giving the drama queen some paracetamol or cocodemol orally. One of the main contraindications is HEAD TRAUMA due to the risk of intercranial bleeding. It's an NSAID drug that can inhibit platelet activity.

She probably had some minor bleed that was exacerbated by it and since it wouldn't fucking clot, over enough hours the intercranial pressure built up and pressed f to pay respects.

It's the only thing I can find that remotely makes sense, and if it is then that hospital is getting the mother of all lawsuits shortly.

. sure, she’s an annoying genderspecial

I asked in the other thread, do we have any actual evidence she was a genderspecial who went by nex before she died? Close to everything that's been reported has been lies, did grandma make up troon shit after death? That 20 min interview video has nothing but misgendering and deadnaming while the girl's smiling like a brat at the cop.

Girl dies from whatever, grandma poisoning her maybe, whether grandma poisoned or not did she see a dead girl and get griftbux ideas from some kind of current year websites?

Edit and I also got the feeling from the vid that dagny didn't even much care about making the police report, but grandma made a big show of being on the hunt for justice when at that point she had a seemingly healthy granddaughter. And later she would make a 911 call that a poster itt points out is a lot about adding to the narration of the story rather than just asking for the bambalamps.

Honestly pouring water on someone who was bullying you earlier seems strange to me. Back in my school days water was poured on people as a form of bullying/hazing/kids being dunmbasses whatever you wanna call it, not in response to it - the typical response to bullying (those that actually stood up for themselves, anyway) was to pop the other person in the mouth; sometimes it ended there but more often than not it turned in to a scrap.

I can sort of see the 'but I didn't hurt them it's just water' angle to try and get out of trouble, but on the other hand, why would you not expect to get your ass beat after dumping water on someone?

lmaoooo grandma sounds like such a typical Owasso parent re: her being bamboozled that her kid could get charged for starting it. I'm not sure if I agree that she gave the kid extra dosage on purpose but something does seem odd. The articles say she's got six kids, right? I wonder if she's just checked out mentally, dealing with six normal kids sounds like a nightmare but then you add in that they're actually her daughter's kids, two are confirmed genderspecial and I can only wonder if more than one of them is on meds...

I know nothing about vaping or those particular meds. Is it possible that the dead kid's vapes interacted with any of the listed meds she was on, or the shot from the ER?

It also interacts with fluoxetine to exacerbate the risk of bleeds. If she did get a shot of ketorolac that’s a massive error by the hospital.

That's exactly what was done to Andy Ngo.

That was my working theory until the autopsy came back with no head bleed, and the hospital vids show no signs of bruising, bleeding, trauma, or even any particular soreness or discomfort. I don't think that's it now, it's some sort of OD or illicit drug. Wonder if granny is like many pretendian white trash and has "pain patches" laying around in the cabinet.

There was mention of a vape that she was caught with.
I wonder if there could be some interaction with a nicotine or even weed vape and the cocktail of drugs she was taking.
