Transsexuals love censoring all who refuse to respect their authority and enforcing their dogma on whatever media they can get their hands on. But their favorite activity is recruiting children within their ranks.

You may have seen this character before. His name is Birdo. I personally didn't even even know he existed before I found out about him on the internet. But for a certain group this character is like a transsexual saint. He was the first (and last) step in Nintendo's attempts to include transfolx in the Mario series.

Introduced in Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. 2 released in 1987, Birdo is the first and most infamous and arguably well-known transgendered character in the games industry (this is so sad). Birdo – preferred name Birdette – is described in the American manual for Super Mario Bros. 2 as “[a boy who] thinks he is a girl.”
(source)
Has there ever been any dialogue in a Mario game where Birdo comes out as trans to Yoshi? Has the character ever been depicted with a trans flag? Nope! Birdo is a character that wasn't even made by Nintendo and every mention of him being trans (which can only be found in manuals) has been in an anti-trans joke.

The Japanese site for Mario Kart: Double Dash!! pulls the tiresome bait-and-switch joke so many works of fiction do with her description saying that “[she] appears to be Yoshi’s girlfriend… or does that mean boyfriend!?”, which I always find uncomfortable because it carries this air of “fooled you! They’re actually a MAN!”
This manual in particular was the last mention of this character being trans.

But as we all know the early 2000's and the 90's might as well be the 1930's for trans people. So Nintendo has surely changed their transphobic ways since then... right? Nope! Birdo is still referred to by his deadname instead of his preferred name which is Birdette. Nintendo likely forgot about the joke they inserted in a manual from 30 years ago and simply refer to the character as a she in all descriptions.

Will this stop the transfolx from having freakouts over the character's identity? Nope! To this day the Mario Wiki is waiting for Nintedo to come out and say that Birdette is a valid trans "woman". As such Birdo continues to have the most active talk page in the entire Wiki.

This video shows you exactly how desperate these men are to have their own character in the Mario series. Unfortunately for him and others like him, Mario is still a successful franchise and no amount of ESG money will make Nintendo give that up.

Nintendo's real feelings about Birdo

There was a Wii game that Nintendo never bothered to release in any country other than Japan. Behold, the character that will save the trans community:
Upcoming Wii game Captain Rainbow seeks to capitalise on the confusion by making Birdo the centre of one of your first quests. Birdo needs your help getting "her" out of jail, after the fuzz - convinced she's a he - lock her up for using the women's bathroom. And the only way you can get her out? Go find some "evidence that I'm a woman"Which of course means going to her house. Then finding that her pillow's vibrating. Then lifting up the pillow to find...something. Whatever it is, it's censored, but it's under her pillow, it's vibrating, then you get a little message saying "Proof that the owner is a woman". Please let this game get a release outside of Japan, Nintendo.

This makes the whole thing even funnier. The year was 2008 and Nintendo approved Captain Rainbow. They can't even use the "Well the 80's was literally just like 1930's" excuse anymore. Birdo is not your "gal" and you will never have a popular trans "icon" to represent you. At least not in videogames.

Ive heard this Birdo theory before years ago, its still just as gay now.
There was a kotaku article years ago about a Japanese only Nintendo game where Birdo goes on trial for sneaking into the womens bathroom, and you prove his innocence by getting the Hitachi Wand from his house. The tone of the article was "lol, those nippons are so weird". I think that game would be celebrated today.

Can you link this article? I want to add it to the OP.

Fun fact: there is a Japanese only wii game called captain rainbow that truly show off birdo as trans. In it birdo is arrested for using a women's bathroom and you have to prove she's a women by presenting bird's ??? Which is implied to be a vibrator. Why that's perfect trans representation
Edit: Ninja'd

The original article had images to go along with the descriptions. Those images appear to be missing.

There's this paragraph with a broken link to a wired article.
Quick: what's Birdo? Dude thing, or lady thing? Upcoming Wii game Captain Rainbow seeks to capitalise on this confusion by making Birdo the centre of one of your first quests. Both articles are from 2008, around the time social justice was starting to ramp up.

I don't really understand why people give so much of a fuck either way about what the manual for a 30+ year old game says. I'm pretty sure as a kid I gave absolutely zero fucks about the fact that the manual called birdo a he and didn't think about it at all and all I gave a fuck about was catching the weird little fucker's eggs and throwing them back at its face.

Silence yourself, bigot. Birdo is the most popular trans character in all of gaming. Mario Wiki trannies said so!

I added the parentheses there.

It should be noted that japan has had a very distinctive style of "trans representation" up until extremly recently

Basically if trans people think birdo was made to cheer on trans there probably as delusional as someone who thinks wearing a dress makes you a women. If it wasn't for the pixel count birdo would probably have a 5 o'clock shadow

You know what's funny? The manual specifically said that Birdo is "a boy who thinks he's a girl", and yet not a single fucking troon with their HRT holed brain thought that trying to push this character as a trans icon is contradicting the narrative they want to push which is that trans women are just like real women.

Birdo is a delusional faggot and this is their trans icon. For fuck's sake do they love to self-own themselves like that. :story:

Didnt they make Bowser into an anime girl a few years ago? You would think they were happy enough with that.

Ive heard this Birdo theory before years ago, its still just as gay now.
No, that was a joke fan art based on the super crown power up.

At any rate, the Birdo "theory" isn't much of a theory. The fact that this manual gives so little fucks as to even name the character correctly just makes it even funnier.

Your OP should also go about including some good salt, since we already have the Mario Wiki thread, id recommend venturing out into the unknown to find some.
