Retro games and emulation - Discuss retro shit in case you're stuck in the past or a hipster

Does RetroArch even have support for the different packs and addons (specifically the transfer pack)? Last i checked, you had to do some extra fuckery to get it to work properly, which is why I use a seperate emulator for it.
No idea. I don't use retro arch. I used it once on a Raspberry Pi, and tried the FX overclocking trick to make super FX games run at 60fps. In Starfox the game speed is tied to framerate though so it often runs too fast. Other than that, I always use stand alone emulators, and never understood why stand alone emulators are considered a problem.

They really aren't, the only reason we have to deal with Retroarch bullshit nowadays is because PS3 homebrew devs wanted to package everything in one application because they are too lazy to change emulators, and then their abortion of a multiemulator got popular and ported everywhere.

I’ll never understand RetroArch detractors. Even ignoring the unified controller-friendly interface, it has a unified architecture that’s both highly portable and allows features and configurations to work across multiple systems. It’s been a godsend for emulation on more obscure devices, and some cores run better than their standalone versions, like Doom on PS2 or Super Mario War on Vita.

or do people just not care about that anymore?
I haven’t tried it myself, but the Mupen core does support the transfer pak. Apparently the only fuckery is that you have to rename your Game Boy save to .sav if it’s not already.

Well basically any kind of accumulative front-end means extra fuckery. If you don't want any of the exclusive, or up to date cores, like picodrive, or don't want to use Dolphin (which is behind the standalone anyway), PCSX2 (which was replaced with its own fork LRPS2) or Citra in older OSes, or if you have limited storage, then you're better off with standalones. Or the unofficial lite version, worse in some aspects, better in some others.

Which is bugged and in many cases, specifiaclly motion and touch, offers less options?
some cores run better than their standalone versions
Yes, like Flycast android. And some others are worse, like PPSSPP.

Not to mention it's bloated size, before even any core is added.
"Detractors" like myself, would be less hostile, if any search and discussion for emulation wasn't filled to the brim with retroarch and libretro solutions, and now launchbox and pi.

why would I care about that tho? different systems have different requirements, so more often then not I'd have to adapt it anyway.
people playing 12 different systems at the same time is also more of a mythological theory than rooted in reality.

Given that Yuzu and Citra are dead, does anyone know where I can get the most recent versions of these emulators? Additionally, take care to ensure that this is the actual build rather not a malware-infected reupload. Huge thanks to whoever can provide this request.

Emudeck still has Yuzu and Citra listed as part of their downloads so I think you could just download it from there. Unfortunately you probably would have to download a bunch of other emulators in the process as they're all packaged together and the fact that it's originally created with the steam deck in mind and then ported to the PC means that you might only want to use emudeck if you can't find the emulators anywhere else.

IIRC you can manage the downloads to only the desired emulators, but I would grab them all now anyways because why not

Shit. I deleted all of my emulators to make room on my deck and have been working all day. Thankfully I have a jail broken Switch and DS, but I’ve still heard that some titles (lie the broken Pokémon releases) run better emulated with fixes. I’m sure I’ll find a copy whenever I need it- I hope- but this is annoying.
