A lot of the articles about this mention dilation in passing but don't get into what it is, which I think is leaving out a pretty major thing. I don't think the general public realizes at all that getting this surgery requires patients to painfully dildo fuck themselves for hours every day. But beyond that, think about the fact that these doctors/therapists are suggesting the patients time the surgery so they are still in the parent's home before leaving for college to make it easier to stay on the routine and actually do the dilation. I remember getting this talking point for preventative wisdom tooth extraction: get it done while you're at home so your parents can help you with the recovery, and while their insurance will pay for it*. It's something they say so you will do what they want, maybe even for your own good, maybe not. Get it now, as young as possible, not later, don't stress, don't research, don't even think about it too much. I can see the argument if it really is an unpleasant procedure you actually absolutely do need, but it takes a dark turn with the troonshit.

* The cost was around $2,000, including sedation etc. As an adult, I was quoted something like $200 to yank all four in just a few minutes of actual yanking, and I could drive myself home.
