I sifted through a lot of options to find linked accounts to find past usernames or any sign of recent privating (steamgifts, steam db, barter, steam trades, etc etc) and found nothing. He's either been private for quite some time, or the account is abandoned.

Check for pictures of his cat. It may not be a guarantee but I remember him posting a picture of his black cat (and it's asshole). He also mentioned having some sort of tiger plushie from a series or media he's a fan of. The cat isn't a smoking gun per se but the plushie could be. I could look for it myself but I refuse to make a facebook account.
