Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Remember, big studios such as Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks and Fox were already known for having to hire celebs to do voice acting, even if a lot do not know how to act nor even watch cartoons
People blame sharktale for this and sharktale is certainly to blame but will smith is animated enough to actually voice a cartoon character, same for jack black.

Like, what the fuck is pedro pascal doing in that lineup? Just because he was too lazy to be on the mandalorian's set doesn't make him a voice actor.

As good as usual. The final just lacks emotion and is definitely the worst of the fights. Most memorable fight is the one with a bar on a cliff, where the bar will tip over if too much weight on one side. I also like how early fights show Po’s nature as he is constantly saving people and returning stolen goods mid fight.

This is pretty much how I would describe this movie. It is Kung Fu Panda, but lacking the emotion. Movie doesn’t have a “It’s my time” or inner peace scene. Villain has a great connection to Po in being barred from Kung Fu due to physical appearance, but movie does hardly anything with it.
Good to know. Hopefully this is just a misstep before a course correction in the inevitable 5th movie.

I'd say it goes much, MUCH earlier than Shark Tale. See, even Disney's animation outlet had a lot of celebrities during the Golden Age of Animation, like Bing Crosby as Ichabod. Ditto with Warner Bros., MGM and, even during the First Age of Television, Hanna-Barbera. However, these companies still had more recognizable voice actors such as Mel Blanc and Daws Butler.

By the 80s onward when studios have been pumping out animated studios to rival other studios, they started to add in more recognizable actors of that time. In the late-90s, DreamWorks happened to plant the seed by the production of Antz with its ensemble cast of celebrities and actors. However, production was rushed to meet the Fall 1998 release to compete head-to-head against its rival Pixar with its film A Bugs Life, and their next computer animated movie in 2001, Shrek, ended up being more recognizable by the idea of having more celebrities, among other things

Does anyone know what happened to Brickleberry? It was funny as fuck. Maybe droves of dull faggots decided they liked dross like Rick and Morty more. When I was flicking through one night, I caught that Mad Max rip-off episode. I nearly put my foot through the telly.

Tom Kenny (Spongebob) was in Brickleberry, too, AND a series called Camp Lazlo.

@TVB I used to love Shark Tale as a kid, but not anymore, 'cos of Weirdo Will's Ongoing Cuck Saga.

I‘m only going to question if there is any point of releasing a sequel to Inside Out. As someone who actually did not mind the first one too much, I don’t know what is the point of making another movie.

I mean, we live in a day and age where most of today‘s younger generation are getting caught up in a fad where people can just make up random mental illnesses the same way they can make up random names for multiple genders. Plus, we have not scratched the surface as to how many unchecked and untreated mental illnesses there are in young people today.

To put it short, Inside Out’s sequel will have to be a lot better than the first. Because now, they will have to compete with TikTok on things like this:

IDK.

Another thing to note is that the Furious 5 are not in the film, which is incredibly weird. Tigress especially is such an odd omission given how popular and important she was in previous films. Sifu and Po’s dads are the only parts of the main cast that return and none of them felt all that needed.

I liked this film. I might even say it course corrected a bit from 3, but it feels mediocre in comparison to the first 2. Po and Zhen have a fun relationship, but everything around their story feels extremely half baked.

Hopefully they give the FF more screen time in the sequel, especially now they have a new character in Zhen to bounce off of. As an aside, I do like the idea of there being two separate trilogies: one for Po as a student, one for him as a master. Even if 5 and 6 end up being the same quality as 4, that's still consistent.

I hate that I know this but Brickleberry got cancelled, the creators got shows on Netflix where they just made the same show again except with cops and science fiction and even had a crossover with Brickleberry.

They either had god-tier luck or god-tier nepotism.

Either way shows how most executives don’t take adult animation seriously.

Shit, that sounds depressing. Well, cheers for letting me know. I used to binge-watch it on weekends, and suddenly, it just... stopped. Bloody Netfilix...

I think it's fine they weren't in it, since Po at some point needed to prove he can carry a film without them, especially if they're now making it a big deal that he has to be a master and have pupils to attend to. I just don't know if this was the right film for that, since Zhen (I thought it was Xin, I couldn't be arsed to remember her name) needed better characterization to her and to not be voiced by Awkwafina.

Really felt like a transitional film, and a potential pilot for another Kung Fu Panda series, thinking about it. But I also did not watch any of the TV spinoffs, so I actually don't know if any of the other kung fu masters like Warthog were from there. Wonder if I really should've watched the spinoffs before this.

Easy, modern Pixar are full of trannies and they will use the new film either to push gender ideology or too have one more underaged lesbian to mastubate for.

[probably late; I know this movie came out sometime last year, but whatever]

Has anyone seen a Netflix animated movie called "Nimona"? The levels of cringe are off the fucking scale.

It feels like some teenage girl from 2017 Tumblr got given a $100 mil budget and full creative control, and just went hog-wild, trying to make the most inclusive, inoffensive, lol-random movie they possibly could.

It almost feels like someone tried to make a parody of terrible, cringey "woke" movies/tv, with an overpowered, smug, obnoxious "Mary-Sue" protagonist, who has no depth or likability, and effortlessly defeats every foe in their path (like, a 10yo girl simultaneously beating up a half-dozen trained, armoured, full-grown men).

(and the over-inflated imdb score is deeply suspect)

I guess I'm a slow learner.

They've done some decent stuff; Love, Death & Robots. Squid Game, Top Boy, Bojack Horseman, Haunting of Hill House. Black Mirror and Stranger Things were great, until they weren't. Pluto, Baki.

They seem the same as any other company- The vast majority of what they make is dogshit, but they make ok stuff occassionally, too.

The original comic looks even worse.

Do you want to tell in more detail about the movie? I have been curious how awful it is but not enough to bother to see it myself. I saw some promotional clips they were pretty bad but I know those aren't always accurate to final project.
