Nexpo/YT Horror Channels - Do they all suck

I'm not sure where I read or heard it, but the term "safe scary" has been pinging around in my empty noggin like a DVD logo all day. It really encapsulates the level most (if not all) horror exists at today. A series can imply men, women, and children are being tortured & killed in the most horrific ways, but no naughty twansphobia! no heckin horrible racism! no bad no-no six letter gamer words! and definitely no jabs at the current political world order! What are you, some kind of nazi?!

safe scary
Oh man, now that's a word that could definitely catch on if someone or something makes enough of a rumble about it. Hazbin Hotel has been the prime target for it's "safe edgy" humor and how everyone's been dunking on that. Something that's popular and "safe scary" enough would have to be something where people say "enough is ENOUGH" and start meming on that too and make them realize the current state of online horror.

i would just use "safe scary" to describe the "disturbing moments on TV" where some guy makes fun of another guy and he gets killed two years later, the creepypastas about haunted games, and webseries where the jumpscare is a freeze frame of a stupid Photoshopped face
i haven't watched The Painter because i don't find slideshows interesting, but gratuitous murder should be viewed the same as gratuitous rape

I also don't like how he kind of stokes the American distrust of the police. Given America's current political climate, and him being a foreigner, I don't think it's right for him to do that. I get that police drop the ball a lot with cases, but I find some of his comments inflammatory.

Edit: my bad, I was catching up on the thread and didn't realise how long ago this was posted.
No worries for the necro.

Yeah, I don't like how he describes some of the places he covers as "backwater" and that kind of shit. I don't care if he's right. Just kinda rankles.

I still don't hate the guy. He puts out a lot of good content. Maybe it's just a cultural thing lol

New Lazy. This one is pretty good imo.

I know he couldn’t go into full detail about the Orlando drop tower killing the giant kid, but after reading and posting in the KF thread while it was happening a couple years back, that section of the video felt underwhelming. Just shows us kiwis are a bit ahead of the curve compared to Lazy’s more mainstream audience.

I was recently watching Severance and it was surprisingly well made and it incorporates liminal spaces into its concept in a very effective way that fits the theme perfectly. But as the mistery developes the more it becomes another shitty show where the villains are just nazis all along. Every road leads to the same end. The chances of media actually subverting that nowadays are pretty null so there's very little reason to care, the big spook is always the same, the big reveal is always the same.

The wet slap is probably the thing I'm never going to unhear.

Season 2 is being worked on, also, I don't think we watched the same season 1.

I am gonna watch season 2 but the ending of season 1 already felt very conventional and my interest in the mistery aspect dropped a lot specially after the last episode. They leaned heavily with the cristian analogies and Lumon being into some form of eugenics, i might be infering too much but its a road well traveled and it leads to nazis/republicans/white christian man bad rather than an insightful commentary.

The lost media fandom reaching analog horror levels of autism and retardation. I swear these niggas are going to get caught grave robbing one day. The lost media community is dominated by people who never outgrow Creepypastas. What gets me is writers for lost scripts are often still active on social media, yet no one asked Garth Ennis about the rape of Wonder Woman script he pitched to DC Comics. Than again even the lost media community inserting tranny politics in unrelated videos.

They'd never ask about that because it's not content made to be consumed by people under the age of 10.

I actually watched the backgardians video because I have a soft spot for lsupersonicq. He is an unrepentant pokemon and sonic autist who makes no excuses for himself which I find endearing. I don't follow him on anything else so I have no idea how he is outside goofy youtube videos. The video is not that different from his other overly in depth, autistic but endearing breakdowns on random lost media. It has interesting discord drama about baby show fans and people who archive things. I don't know why he decided to brand the video like a creepypasta. The video has more of a tone of frustration than horror. It could be because he used an alternate editor for the video and they know branding it like that brings in views. Blameitonjorge gets millions of views off acting like a lost tv show is as serious as a genocide. Jorge was patient zero for acting like a forgotten juice commercial from 2004 was as spooky as a cannibal murderer. You can see where the views are on lsupersonicq's channel. Anything associated with spongebob or preschool children's show gets way more views than videos on an obscure song from a band.

I think the growing problem with lost media channels is that most of them are based around the lost media wiki now. Same topics covered again and again like current horror channels. The wiki's community is on discord too which is never a good sign. They're raiding the same archive edited by mostly the same people. The people most dedicated to editing the wiki are people with the most time on their hands so literal children and always online people. The largest audience for lost media is going to be the usual suspects of online autists obsessed with certain franchises and other assorted Internet people who populate discords. This is kiwifarms so I don't think I need to tell you what those people are like. You can mostly blame the decline on how the modern lost media wiki was built on searches for stuff like clockman, cracks, and a day with spongebob. All children's media that sounded like creepypasta at first, but turned out to be real. Everyone is desperate for another big search for a super spooky thing and try to force it.
