People say this, but it's just not true. Narcissists kill themselves too, they just tend to have more petty motivations than normal people, like spite (just ask Richard Kyanka). Ego can prevent or cause suicide. Ego for some reason has a bad rep. Think of it in terms of space. You can have a big Ego - that's good, or small Ego - that's bad.

If Egos were a buckets with specific storage capacity, Lucas's bucket is horrifyingly small. It can't fit many things life will throw at him, like mild criticism, or mockery. Now consider all the things life has thrown at him and all the things he should be able to store in his bucket while maintaining equilibrium of his being.
