Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Speaking of Elfen Lied, I'd like to share a little fun fact about the mangaka Lynn Okamoto, & his then assistant of 5 years & the now illustrator of Oshi no Ko, Mengo Yokoyari. She's an even bigger edgelord compared to Lynn, due to most of her one-shots have the borderline vibe of some Western femcel whore having woman moments & putting them on paper.

Now, to the main meat of the matter, there's a potentially made-up rumor that it was Lynn who inspired an absolute avalanche of hysterical manga from Mengo about women meeting their idols & being disappointed, women cheating & being justified in being whores, & the final barely-fictionalized account about Okamoto's pathological fear of roast beef that was Neo Dutch Wife.

Warning: Massive faggotry ahead. I'll give a TL:DR ahead of time.

TL;DR: Lynn Okamoto is an absolute giga-chad who possibly inspired an entire seething oneshot based on a single offhand disparaging remark about the absolute state of a roastie's genitalia. Which later led the roastie into proving his point.

What is Neo Dutch Wife? Well, it's a one shot where an Otaku named En befriends this costhot named Yumi, who later asks him to take her nude cosplay pictures, he looks at her pussy & says "it's not what I expected it to look like" due to his inexperience (he's Japanese, probably expected it to be in mosaic. Also, the implication is that she's possibly a roastie) & he tried to explain himself with how he was only used to 2D, & had no experience st all with 3DPD, she says "kill yourself otaku" leaves & mentally broke the guy to being essentially in obsessive love with his own drawn manga waifu (he's a sperg turned schizo mangaka in the future). At the end, she picks up his manga, & brags to her friend about the mangaka being her first love, felt scorned, & later decided to fuck all his male friends (IIRC, including those in relationships) & ruin his entire friend circle, essentially bragging about going scorched earth on his social relationships to polish her self-esteem back in shape.

Also, for those who don't know, Dutch Wife is a slang for sex dolls & body pillows (Dakimuras). The Dutch part also means fake or substitute in other contexts, like Dutch Courage. Neo part is his imaginary waifu serving as a receptacle for all. It's pseudo intellectual masturbation honestly, I thought the title was supposed to describe her pussy looking like a Dutch Baby at first.

This one-shot is considered to be the biggest connection to Lynn Okamoto. The reason behind that is that while all the other one shots have much more of an exaggerated soap opera feel to them (this does too, but for a different reason I'll explain later*). However, this one shot comes across as much more personal than the others, for one because this incident could easily happen to any woman, including herself, & the male protagonist shares her profession. It's not much of a stretch to assume En was fashioned after a male colleague, Okamoto being the most likely culprit.

*This entire one-shot is retardedly contrived cause most people don't actually act or talk like this. It actually comes off as someone's fanfic. There's an edited meme version that sounds more human in comparison.

This is not the real page, but I wish it was.

The one shot Neo Dutch Wife, is also part of a whole anthalogy manga with retarded shit like this called Isshou Sukitte Yutta jan. IIRC, there's one where a girl gets pregnant with her teacher & tries to get the BF to take responsibility.

Speaking of, Mengo and Oshi no Ko certainly set off a bomb yesterday amirite?
I don't read, but from looking online it's "It's not incest if we're star crossed lovers who were reincarnated as siblings", which isn't that unique in anime. That being said, the "lovers" are a 30 year old man and a 10 year old girl. Oshi no Konis like several layers of incest and pedophilia, and I still can't believe they never told eachother of their past life for 16 years.

That's a whole nother level of roastie complex I never knew was possible.
I never watched it and it kinda faded to the background only to have Madoka Magica do its shtick better.

Its a little more complex. My general thoughts on it are that both halves of everyone freaking out are retarded.

So the general premise of the last Arc of Oshi no Ko is as follows:

Having discovered who his father is Aqua plans to kill him, but not before socially and publicly destroying him first. The entire world is currently focused not on him, but the rising star that is his sister Ruby. It is in this moment, that Ichigo, owner of Ichigo Productions who has bailed out of his wife's life for most of the series and left the raising of Aqua and Ruby to her has reppeared.

While his wife mentions that operating the Production Agency has been very hard without him and that she worries about Ruby's mental health. Ichigo interjects that she has done fine and the person she needs to worry about is Aqua, as he is spiraling and nobody has noticed.

Then we get to the movie arc proper. So far the entire arc has been a lot of backstory about Ai. The idea that its a movie is diegetically allowing flash backs about Ai and Hikari Kamiki (The father) without having to stop the plot.

In the background of all this you've had some pretty heavy handed condemnations of the entertainment industry that's pretty standard fare for Oshi no Ko. They have, in no uncertain terms, called people into Shota/Loli shit Pedophiles and Sex Offenders, and had conversations about how the Entertainment Industry breeds victims who will be tomorrow's offenders in a never ending circle of destruction and misery.

In juxtaposition to this we have the Supernatural Plot that's stuck to Oshi no Ko. Aqua Hoshino, formerly the doctor Goro views his past life of something of a ghost or visage that informs his present day decisions, but ultimately that Aqua Hoshino and Goro the doctor are separate people. Opposed to that however is Ruby Hoshino, who died before she hit puberty, and views her life as Ruby as an extension of her past life.

Ruby/Serina is absolutely infatuated with Goro because a long, long time ago when she as a little girl dying of cancer out in the sticks, when even her own family stopped visiting her, Goro was a resident at that hospital and went out of his way to try and keep her spirits up.

There is no serious implications that he has any attraction to her at all, and while he "entertains" the idea of dating her when she comes of age when Sarina asks, its pretty clear that this is just a ploy to try and get a dying little girl to try and live just a bit longer. She dies, he processes it but keeps her memory close, but ultimately moves on. Sarina, never gets a chance to process her feels 'cause she's dead as fuck.

Now all that said we get to the latest chapter. Its a really good chapter in terms of catching up on Aqua who's been in the backseat this entire arc. We find out he doesn't think he deserves to be alive. We find out he hates himself for all the manipulations and machinations he's done. We find out he's rather hopeless, and doesn't allow himself to feel happiness and that the situation is pretty bleak.

We find this out as he's talking to Ruby/Serina. Ruby tells him that the reason he feels this way is because he no longer has someone he idolizes. When Ai was alive, she was that, but ever since she died he'd never replaced her. He kind of laughs and agrees at which point Ruby says that he is her idol and that she loves her idol, before leaning over and kissing the guy.

Now this is the part the Internet seems to be leaving out. Aqua does not look happy about this in the panels. We don't get his full reaction, we see him look shocked when she kisses him at home, and then after the scene in the movie where he was required to kiss her, we cut to Mem, Kana, and Akane looking mortified and Aqua looking extremely uncomfortable about it.

This is where the bomb has dropped with half the readers celebrating because they're into Incest ships, and the other half saying the story is dead and moving on.

So beyond that summary: Both sides are fucking dumb. The people calling it an Incest Manga are being a little premature and disingenuous. We don't know how the situation between Ruby and Aqua pays out because the story skips before we learn anything else.

The people saying that it has never been more jover are also being premature for the same reasons stated above, but also contextually it doesn't make sense in the story. The last three chapters were dedicated to talking about how evil the Entertainment Industry's sexual deviancy is, and the literal antagonist of the story is the result of it. So I really don't see a world where the message is "Molesting people is bad, but its okay to fuck your sister."

Additionally the story hasn't even hit the climax yet, we're still firmly in the rising action part of this tale. So yeah, as far as I'm concerned all signs point to people just flipping their shit way too early for a story that isn't even close to being where it wants to go.

No; there is another.

Oh god, not this one. I'll never forget how sickeningly sweet and cute the intro is while showing all the disturbing things that happen.

The animation was awful on this one too. Fun fact: the studio that did this also did The Galaxy Railways and Pandalian, the latter of which is a kids' show that aired on Canadian TV frequently. Those shows were the only other anime this studio did. Weird.

Seeing who produced it, I could see why Canada got this easy on TV.

Utena just turned her rival into a loli. Twitter is going to melt down again.

Honestly, Elfen Lied was just... too edge, even for me. And I'm the goodest boy, I mean edgiest boy of Autistic Thunderdome. But true edge has a deeper meaning.

Seems more convoluted than complex. Oshi no Ko could just have had the characters be normal children and literally nothing would change. It's all that unnecessary baggage that creates a ton of bad implications.
True, and the super natural component is the worst part of the story.

the rule of thumb to deciding if something is incest or pedophilia or rape is to ask if the even is a tragic event involving real people, or if it's a completely fictional scenario dreamed up by a pervert?
If it's the latter then yes it's fucked up with some weird scenario written in to excuse it.

Is it good edge or bad edge? I remember an ex watched it when it came out and begged me to watch it too, but the first episode was a cliche fest so I couldn't be bothered, even though she promised it was a total mind fuck.
Think it depends on if you go with the manga or not. The anime is, surprise, unfinished.

It's only edgy during one episode if I remember right, and even then, I think the girl had it coming.

Because DCEU blackwashed him, & later the garbage game recently too.
Now that u mention it, I totally forgot that he was black in both suicide squad movies. Ive seen both films once and they were forgetable. I thought him being black in the new shitty SS game was just Sweet Baby Inc doing the classic blackwashing of white characters again.

He was Black in the first one, the other film replaced him with an entirely new character Bloodsport, who was always Black in the comics, & then the game used the black-washed Will Smith version due to wokeness.

Ah of course it's unfinished. Is that the infamous worm scene?

Also is the manga worth reading if I've already seen Madoka? (All I know about it is that it deconstructs monster taming stories and the author is autistic for planes. And I've heard Madoka covers most of the same territory but better.)

The manga went of the rails pretty early, don't know why I still bother reading it to be honest. But yeah, you hit the nail on the head that it's either a pedo romance or an incest romance no matter what angle you want to look at it from.

And yes, between your comment of "why did they never talk for 16 fucking years" and how Aqua almost NEVER behaves like a grown man would (though he has his shitty Light Yagami skit up to snuff), the whole "reincarnated souls" seems like only an excuse for the incest plot at this point. The whole premise of the show is flawed due to the reincarnation crap.
So beyond that summary: Both sides are fucking dumb. The people calling it an Incest Manga are being a little premature and disingenuous. We don't know how the situation between Ruby and Aqua pays out because the story skips before we learn anything else.
Biologically it's incest, and it's creepy as fuck no matter how you look at it. So they have grown like "brother and sister" for 16 years and this doesn't generate a core sense of "what the hell am I thinking" in Ruby and who the hell knows what is happening in Aqua's head right now, probably another "All according to keikaku" heel turn. This isn't "we are adopted siblings and in a similar age range and relatively old when it happened" which is the only context where I see incest relations as not something completely degenerate. This one is 100% aiming for biological incest, at least as far as Ruby's concerned.
True, and the super natural component is the worst part of the story.
Pretty much, delete all of the supernatural and it would still be melodramatic as all hell, but it's a decent enough read in that wavelength.

It's pretty much just padding at this point. No, even before it's gotten to this point.
