How exactly is targeting enemy formations with an airstrike being cruel?

Russia still isn’t hitting civilian targets, like the Ukrainians have tried to do through drone strikes etc.

Considering that many of the infrastructure and military targets are in densely populated areas like Odessa, the fact that there aren’t many more civilian Ukrainian casualties, show that Russia is prosecuting their war with great care, and really in an exemplary manner when it comes to collateral damage.

I think anyone who attacks a voting booth with a molotov cocktail is, at the very least, an emotional wreck or hysterical, and at worst just completely brain broken and a tool for anyone who wants to manipulate them.

It accomplishes absolutely nothing, you risk burning yourself, getting killed or arrested and thrown in jail, Putin will still be president, and your ass will be grass.

It’s ugly. I don’t agree that medics/firemen are evil and deserve to die, but they’re engaged in saving actual combatants from what was a legitimate military target.

The USA used basically the same argument for why targeting first responders in the GWOT wasn't bad. We'd hit a site, then delay the second strike for when the first responders would show up, ensuring we mulched everyone who knew how to treat a wound.

The people they were trying to save were terrorists, see, and that made blasting first responders somehow different when we did it.

It's militarily sound for the same basic reason any beyond-the-rear attack might be useful. A) You never know what will happen, and B) fuck 'em. In the age of cheap precision guided munitions military planners will poke at any and all of the following as much as possible: pillars of civil society which do crazy amounts of work in keeping a regime propped up (firefighters, policemen, et cetera), intelligence offices, clandestine places, power stations, civilian airfields, civilian airliners (want to get pilots after all), data centers, Internet backbones, labs, universities, you name it. The whole place is a warzone and all of it can be targeted with reasonable accuracy. There aren't a lot of limits that matter or are intelligible to a military engaged in what is portrayed as a life-or-death struggle when a Shahed drone from Iran is just 20k in off-the-shelf parts and cheap explosive.
