People are just weird. It's like with the Ukrainians that instead of sticking to their long traditions of Slavic ethnonationalism, they adopted the image of the Reich. Sure, they were allowed to serve the Reich in a limited capacity as long as they killed Soviet Russians, but in the end, if Hitler won, they would've (at best) be seen as an inferior form of whites.
