At varying points in history, when cultural norms about women's modesty were in flux, they just used to use men as the model then jam a pair of boobs on. Hence why old statues of women look so fucky.
Standards of modesty are as ever changing as what counts 'normal' for your gender. Men in the era that woman wore this had to have long hair since short hair was for slaves and marked you as low class. Pants were for barbarains only (because you need pants to ride horses to rapidly, rape, raid and pillage civilised peoples) while real civilised men wore tunics, togas and other dress like clothing. Its all bullshit really. That said modern fashion is designed for a very lanky male bodies, they just use woman because they're prettier than twinks and its easier to find that type of body type on woman then twink men.

One thing to note about "Sleeping Hermaphroditus" is that there's multiple copies of that statue. Pliny wrote in Natural History that Polycles made a "splendid sculpture" of Hermaphroditus, so thanks to Kopienkritik it's often firmly asserted that this statue is a copy of a Hellenistic bronze - but there's no other details of Polycles's statue. Anyway, there's lots of copies of this statue, which implies it was a frequently copied one as so many survived. It's part of a Roman motif of depicting sleeping women - frequently Ariadne was shown sleeping, and so was Venus/Aphrodite. The interesting thing about this Sleeping Hermaphroditus is there's elements of Dionysus in the depiction (lying on a leather skin on the ground) so the implication may be that Hermaphroditus is passed out drunk (the most famous version in the Louvre had a mattress added in the 17th century).

There's some other famous depictions of Hermaphroditus. Another much copied one is a Symplegma - entaglement - of Hermaphroditus and a satyr (this one also had many copies of it). These statues would have been displayed "in the round" but were designed to be approached from behind.

And that's the crux here. These statues were mirroring more typical types of statuary... but if you walked round to the back, you'd be surprised that the woman depicted actually had a boner.

The Romans found it funny to subvert expectations. The likely purpose of these statues (displayed in gardens, theatres and gymnasiums) was genuinely a pickle surprise. They weren't deifying Hermaphroditus's gloriously non binary erotic form, they were pointing and laughing. That's why there were so many copies of these statues - having a dick joke statue in your hortus meant you were cool. The Symplegma in particular is interesting - the satyr has seemingly happened across Hermaphroditus and launched himself because he thinks he's about to rape a nymph, but the chiton has slipped down to reveal a boner. The pose may suggests Hermaphroditus might actually be trying to draw the surprised satyr closer or stop him escaping - the foot's hooked round for example, and Hermaphroditus is smirking.

The other famous depictions of Hermaphroditus (or Aphroditus) are anasyrmata, which are statues where the subject lifts up their robes to reveal their genitals/buttocks (most famously the Venus Callipyge). This is a holdover from Ancient Greece, which appeared to have made a lot of these sorts of statue -

There's a couple of statuary traditions going on here - the first one most obviously feeds off Herma, which were statues that were essentially a bust and a cock.
Herma_Demosthenes_Glyptothek_Munich_292.jpg
These were located all over the place, especially outside temples and by crossroads. The reason for the weird form is essentially the Greeks and Romans thought phalluses were apotropaic - they warded off the evil eye. The Fascinus is a motif of male virility, and there's countless examples of winged penises, "fist and phallus" amulets and straight up just cocks sculpted onto buildings (I'm not talking about graffiti carved into buildings, but three dimensional penises put there by the builders). Likewise Anasyrma was seen as apotropaic, too - a way of warding off evil by shaming/mocking it (kinda like the Sheela-Na-Gig). So put the two together - an erect penis, and a woman lifting her skirts - and you've got double apotropaic protection. The Greeks also weren't above bawdy jokes either

It's this sort of context that gets missed when someone like Ollie discovers a classical statue that ostensibly depicts a transgender woman, and thinks "Oh they must have worshipped this and thought it was hot". The Greeks and Romans certainly knew that intersex people existed, because they viewed a woman giving birth to an intersex child as a prodigy. That doesn't mean what people think it means, because they used that the word "prodigy" refer to a negative auspicia oblativa - in other words, the Gods had decided to communicate that someone had pissed them off... although that did vary over time, going back to Pliny - "Persons are also born of both sexes combined—what we call Hermaphrodites, formerly called androgyni and considered as portents, but now as entertainments."

Similar thing with Ancient Roman views on gender. For example, adherents of the goddess Cybele would, on the Dies sanguinis (Day of Blood), self flagellate and then castrate themselves, parade through the city holding their severed genitals aloft, and from then on they'd go around wearing bright yellow women's clothing and lots of makeup. This is typically defined as a transgender cult in modern parlance, but the primary sources link it to the story of Queen Stratonice of Syria, who had a vision to build a temple on a mountain. The King sent her there with Combabus, a stunningly handsome courtier. Because he was worried, he cut his genitals off and sealed them in a box before they left. Upon their return, the Queen (who'd been all over him) accused him of seducing her, so he opened the box in front of the King to prove his innocence and was greatly rewarded. Not long after a visiting woman fell in love with Combabus but upon discovering he was a eunuch killed herself in despair, so after that point he started dressing up as a woman to avoid it happening again. But without this additional context people read of the cult of the galli and assume the galli were third gender.

That's clearly a depiction of a euphoria boner, I'm convinced. Olly wins this one.

Cis women (ie actual women) don't need a psychiatrist, why should they?
Well, they do need a psychiatrist if they want psychiatric medication. That don’t just head into the shrinks office and tell them you’re depressed, no I won’t take the PHQ-9, no I won’t explain, I totally understand what I’m getting into. I’m sure psychs get plenty of customers who are like that, but part of the doc’s job is to get some specifics down before treatment.
The GPs don't accept that hormone therapy for trannies is the same as HRT, especially if there's a hormone blocker involved as that has long term effects on fertility and a host of other issues, and refuse to take on that duty.
Cross sex hormone therapy is not like estrogen replacement for menopausal women. The latter subject is better researched, for one, and restoring hormone levels back to some level the body was accustomed to is a lot less tricky than a cross sex hormone protocol. So I agree you’d need a dedicated endocrinologist to manage this, in addition to a good relationship with the GP.
I don't think Olly gets that it's harder for women and men to go on sex hormones they should have since they pretty much need to have a medical condition that justifies them taking estrogen/testosterone supplements. In other words, they need to run proper medical tests to show they're low on said hormone and not just go and cry to a shrink about how they want big GF tiddies.
I think the obnoxious part is when he acts like being trans is a medical emergency , so making him wait for his amhole is like making a cancer patient wait for chemo.
He says "segregation" to make people think he's opposing something that's like apartheid or American racial segregation. But no it's literally just "if you won't give medication and/or surgical procedures to anyone for any reason at any time, you're part of a bigoted system".
He’s an idiot, and he’s also pretty darn entitled if he thinks the NHS owes him SRS on his timeline. There are plenty of sick people in the UK and too few NHS surgeons to treat them. One surgeon can only do so much in a day; they’re burnt out after a few hours of operating and need to stop. Additionally coordinating with anesthesia and reserving a room and support staff takes time, so most surgeons are not operating every day of the year.

If Ollie doesn’t like it, he should just go self pay and get his life-ruining surgery done in Thailand like Keffals did.

Surprised he hasn't yet shared this on socials — it's a good look for him, BBC presenter vibes (well, more like Vogue 73 Questions, but close enough). Bernadette Banner collaborated with Wellcome Collection for a video on corsetry last month, and they've co-authored a few posts on Instagram to promote it. Maybe Olly's promo posts are scheduled for later. Doesn't make much sense to hire an influencer without gaining access to their following in the deal.
He says one of his main trans inspirations is Kim Petras. "Kim's music, for me was like a message from the stars calling me home." Which I will again remind you is this shit

You make stuff up with no evidence and may not even believe it, but it feels like it being true would validate how you're feeling, and therefore you come to believe it is true... even when it doesn't hold up to any logical scrutiny whatsoever.
Figured I'd dig this up from the past. This was from a tweet where he discussed feminism/his right to be in female spaces.

To trans people, especially Olly, womanhood is exciting because you get to show off your new shoes and tits. They tell us it isn't a shackle and that they enjoy it more than we do.

Can't forget the YSL handbag tweet.

does paris lees have a thread, I can't find one. Is paris lees the one that went to the YOI bc they committed a robbery where beat an elderly man with a bottle and the man later died of his injuries, about 2 years later? I remember a file or report leaking ages ago, I think it also said that he was already wearing women's clothes at the time and that's why he lost it at the old guy after he laughed at him. (Old guy wasn't a class act either). Or am I talking about someone completely different?

I think he was robbing John's in his rent boy era. Honestly they deserve what they get, but these things can get kind of out of hand when you're on loads of speedy drugs, which generally goes with the territory..

Just 'hinkin about how Tube called his part in the BR skit a cameo, as well as posted that picture a few weeks ago of Brandon's wig, saying "I took an acting class".

Seems to me, it might be another case of Tube on the cutting room floor. He actually might have filmed some bits in the acting class and just been so horrifically unfunny that there was no way to keep it in and no around it, it just had to be cut- which says a lot seeing as Brandon is heavily involve din his thing, that he couldn't swing the favour.

Tube is just seen as a passer by giving a short line of info in what remained of his part, but he is seen sitting in the cafe talking to another person from the class in a slightly earlier shot, so I think, combine with his "took a class" post, that this is very probably the case.

Big oofs again for his acting chops.

Sounds mostly like pretty one-sided pro-troon BS. Not that I recognize all of these names. Shouldn't he be reading some primary TERF sources if he wants to DESTROY them with FACTS and LOGIC? But sounds like it will just be some gender navel gazing and crying about the evil cissies.
Ollie's argument is that TERFs are trapped in phantasms (things that only exist in your imagination and have no materiality) so fundamentally have an irrational belief system that cannot be reasoned with, and he's proposing a new approach to snapping them out of it. So conveniently, his argument hinges on saying that there is little point in critically engaging with TERF arguments.
Skimming through the book list, I'm going to hypothesise that the argument Ollie will make in the video is something like this:

The spectre of an evil gender ideology is an empty signifier used to manufacture a globohomo conspiracy theory that the state is opposed to traditional values (these traditional values are in fact ahistorical fictions). In reality, the Western state has codified and repressed sexuality to such an extent that people have become neurotic about their own desires, and so despite everyone secretly being super attracted to trans people, the existence of trans people threatens their artificially constructed notions of sex and gender and so they enact violence against trans bodies. The specific attack on transgender people is because as trans rights has gained dominance, this has undermined a core capitalist locus of control (conditioning people into conformity and producing the next generation of workers). Therefore false narratives around trans people being predators and groomers have proliferated, in order to scare people away from class consciousness.

By extension, as the state machinery has manufactured an ideal, the idea of a heterosexual cisgender married couple with 2.4 children and a white picket fence becomes the model ideal of unconflicted personhood. People who are experiencing internal anxiety therefore aggressively pursue that ideal, thinking it will free them from their burdens, and so feel anxious when exposed to a queer counterpublic (i.e. LGBT, and also anyone who doesn't do the Gayle Rubin "good" sex) as it undermines their connection to a hypothetical anxiety-free stable existence, which in turn can lead to that inner anxiety manifesting as projected anger. They're scared and they want to feel safe, and realising their safety-making ideal is fake makes them feel more scared so they lash out, in the hopes it'll get them back to a safe place.

Anyone who has a problem with trans women has therefore been brainwashed to act against their own best interests by the state and is really angry at their own insecurities. Arguments around the authenticity of women - "real" women vs trans women - fundamentally misunderstand that there is ultimately no such thing as a woman, as "woman" is the product of bourgeoise class relations that is mistakenly believed to be an identity. Trans women are aware of the contradiction and are more liberated from the shackles of gender, but much like the urge to ape heterosexual conformity, cis women are driven to ape a hypothetical ideal of a beautiful goddess who also isn't vain and doesn't care about her appearance, and so a lot of cis women are actually mad at trans women for being more beautiful and passing better than them, because it reminds them they can't attain the perfect ideal of womanhood. The way to tackle transphobia is to focus on preventing cis people from brainwashing their children into viewing themselves as cis people, because in our natural state humans have a fluid approach to gender and it is only the result of entrenched ideas around property and ownership that the requirement for fixed identities linked to sex emerges. So to truly end transphobia, we must oppose capitalism and tear down associated state structures (religion, the national curriculum, the nuclear family) that are brainwashing people into being cis (n.b. this is not opposing traditional values because traditional values aren't real) and then we can all live in a genderless communist utopia when everyone's free to embrace how attractive they find trans women (trans women still exist in a genderless utopia).

That's my prediction, anyway. He's got Foucault and Derrida in there so I'd expect a lot of "how do you know anything is real", and a couple of books looking at the history of women and materialist feminism. If he thinks he can't engage with TERFs on a logical level to explain that trans women are real women, the likely conclusion is he'll argue "there are no women". Plus a bunch of stuff about capitalism and possibly the Catholic Church (Anti-Gender Campaigns In Europe blames the Catholic establishment for a lot of transphobic populist thought).

Toob receives a form letter and therefore can't pass up the opportunity show off both how in demand and tormented they are. What reason would the organisers have to purposfully attack someone who they are desperate to spend a lot of money to include in their event? Is it not more likely that the organisers just spammed an email out to an old list of influencers?

Hilarious Bibliography, it's 75% YouTubers and Judith Butler. Probably another quarter are lunatic troons writing about being troons. A bunch of these are articles that basically say GC/TERFs dislike troons, right-wingers dislike troons, so therefore GC/TERFs are right-wingers. Surprised he didn't work in any Judith Butler articles where she says that, she's said it a bunch of times in the last few years. Plus, only six irrelevant Judith Butler citations? How can I take you seriously as a true philosopher if you don't blindly cite every book from the person who is stopping fascism in its tracks:

Lily Alexandre and Caelen Conrad are two of the dumber troontubers I've seen at any length. But I won't claim to be an expert on that genre.

I got these from Jessie Gender's 'transwomen are not biological males' video. Figured you'd have a hoot.
