I think the history of drag is kind of like the history of furry, where it's not all sexual but a sexual element was always present.if you actually sat down and learned the history of drag
I agree with you that dressing up in a costume is not an inherently sexual behavior.
I actually have to been to drag shows and I find some drag humor funny and clever, and there's no denying that many drag queens are talented costume-makers and performers. I'm not against drag, I just don't think it's appropriate for kids and I think the push to have drag queens perform for kids at libraries was fucking odd. I'm also not against furry conventions, but if I had kids and they asked me if they could go to one, I'd say no.
I know that troonism and drag are different things, but I think there is significant overlap. Something like 19 RuPaul's Drag Race contestants have transed themselves.
